Well...my time has come. After over 7 yrs with IBS, I really should have had one before now..but it is happening. I have a really nervous belly today that is off...but I'm hanging in. I'm just worried about to drink the horrible trilyte...any tips? I will try to mix in crystal lite ..but any other hints? I think I'm stocked up and prepared, but nervous about the prep!

Hey Aly!

If you go on the Chrons and Colitis board, Jill Sklar (the moderator) has posted about the Prep and ways to make it easier. It is actually thumbnailed to the top of the first page so you can't miss it.

I forget which prep I had, but it was truly, truly awful. I mixed it with diet 7-up which I thought was truly awful to begin with.

Anyway, to get it down & taste as little of it as possible, I used a straw, placed as far back on my tongue as I could get it.

Good luck. The prep was the worst part for me.

I had mine done last year and I mixed it with different
kinds of juices like apple juice and cran raspberry. You
will be fine, I had to have a scope both ways at the same
time and I made it, you'll do great. Just don't overload
your stomach afterwards and cause cramping because you will
be so hungry!!
Good Luck!!

well, I almost threw up from the trilyte...and couldn't make it past 2 glasses, so I called the doc and he said to go ahead and drink my bottle of miralax instead. It's great!! There's no taste...I've been going a lot, and my little bottom hurts, but at least I don't have to drink that stuff...how does anyone do it!?

Ew...good luck. Take comfort in knowing that the prep is the worst part. The actual procedure is a breeze (at least it was for me!)

Quick question...I'm all done with my prep...but my little bum is hurting me soo badly! It's really burning, and I put some TUCKS cream on it, but it certainly didn't help--any suggestions? My poor little bum!

Ouch. Maybe just keep putting some cream on. Witch hazel is good I think. Good luck tomorrow.

Hi Aly, Did you have to consume a whole 257 gram jug of
Miralax? That's what I had to do in my last colonoscopy. I
had to mix it in 64oz of gatorade and down it in an hours
time, and I almost puked at the end. I started it at one
o'clock in the aft. and didn't even start going till five
o'clock, and then didn't stop pooping till one in the
morning. Even after that every time I felt like farting,
I ran to the toilet just in case. Not a whole lot of fun.
The good news is with the drugs they use to put you out
will also eliminate any pain and cramping. After, the
colonoscopy, you'll feel like a million bucks. So you
can go out and totally enjoy the rest of the day. I felt so
good that I even went swimming in Lake Superior which was
at 50 degrees at the time. Good Luck with it!

Oh, about the burning bum problem, just take a hot shower,
and narrow the nozzle down so you get a nice thin high
speed stream, and stick your bum in it. Seriously, it will
work. -Bob

I had to do the colonoscopy for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I was very, very nervous too. It actually wasn't so bad for me. I had to drink a gallon of the Golytely. It didn't taste as bad as I thought it would. I would drink a huge gulp then chase it down with apple juice and kept doing that until it was gone.

I was afraid of cramping but there was none. But it did take a long time to get all the liquid out of me. I started at 1pm and didn't stop going until 11pm. Another thing was that the liquids made me extremely full, which is good and bad because at least I wasn't hungry for food.

The test itself was a breeze. I went out like a lightbulb. The nurse was talking to me and the next minute I know I was waking up in the postop room. But, it did take me a few days to get stable after the colonscopy. So be prepared to try and get stable after. Not that it happens to everyone, but that was my & some other's experience.

Good luck!

Aly, Desitin ointment works great for diaper rash and sores.

Just wanted to thanks everyone SO much for the advice. I made it through my colonoscopy just fine--boy were those some great drugs! So, I can now have a final and secure definition of IBS. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! A little gassy and tired, but doing well now that I can FINALLY eat!:)
