I usually have sandwich for lunch. I was just thinking, that's a lot of yeast. Should I be eating a yeast free bread to be safe?

Do most of you avoid yeast? How do I know if it is a problem?

thanks for your thoughts.

This actually came up within the past week - someone posted that her naturopath told her most IBSers should avoid yeast. That's certainly not the case for me - if you do a Search you can find my post on that.

I'm with Khyricat. If you have IBS, yeast breads should be fine. I'd say they make up 50% of my SF foods most days. If you have something else - candida, SIBO, STC, chronic idiopathic constipation, parasites, gall bladder problems, thyroid problems, endometriosis, diverticulitis - instead of IBS or in addition to IBS, then whether yeast breads are okay depends on what else you have.

I would be eating a lot of yeast if I ate bread with yeast everyday. I am now only eating yeast free bread...but it is expensive and difficult to find.

sorry about the confusion. But, I'm confused!

Does yeast have gluten in it? If not, then why are you avoid-
ing it? -Bob

I once read a post where someone said they were eating yeast free to help their IBS but that was because the doc also said he or she also had a yeast overgrowth in his/her digestive system/tract. I know that when I was on antibiotics my IBS flared up, I got pretty bad and painful D, and a vaginal yeast infection. My doc said it would help to cut out yeast and simple sugars for a bit because they feed the yeast, causing them to reproduce in my digestive system create more IBS problems. Maybe you were thinking of something like that? My doc also suggested I start a probiotic so that the healthy bacteria could begin out numbering the bad bacteria. I have to say though, I don't feel good when I don't include bread in my diet. I eat fresh french bread as often as I feel like, which is everyday, because it is so calming and filling for my tummy. I don't think the yeast should be a problem at all unless you and your doc think you have a bad overgrowth problem. I take primal defense, which I know you've tried and didn't like, but it's been almost 2 months now and I've been at 3 a day for a few weeks now and found that it really helps (even though there was definitely some pain and bloating until my body adjusted). Anyway, hope this info helped a little.

take care,
Amber
