Its been awhile since I have posted. My fiance of 5 years left me. I am devastated. I have went from 188lbs naked, to 164 with my clothes and shoes on. I haven't been able to eat anything. My stomach is in knots and my nerves are terrible. I am a stressed mess right now. Anyways, I have been able to eat pizza this week. I thought for sure i was doomed, but tried it and I was fine. What do you think is up with that? Does IBS not trigger every time?

I'm so sorry that your fiance left! Please know you're better off in the long run going through this now than later. I'm so sorry. Nobody deserves to be jilted, and I know you must be hurting.

Try to resist the call of the pizza! Pizza is my nemesis. If you're stable at the mo, you might not feel it for 2 or 3 days. But no good can come out of tomato sause and cheese.

If you're a D, you might try taking some Imodium before you tackle a potentially dangerous meal! Works for me (wiping pizza from my face!).

I'm so sorry to hear your news, I can't imagine the devastation of what you are going through. While the pizza was much deserved I am sure it will catch up with you if you keep eating it. Try to get something in your stomach even if you don't feel like eating because it will help your tummy in the lomg run not to be empty. I would also try to get your physical health in check so you can focus on other things, like your emotional health. I hope you feel better soon, and good luck with everything

Hi Lannie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your fiance leaving you. Man, that stinks. Is this why your not eating? I know emotions play a HUGE part for me with my tummy. Try to eat simple things like french bread every now & then.
As for pizza, I agree with Nelly, be careful. I never used to be efffected by pizza, then one night while out at Pizza Hut, I remember getting a real bad attack. (I didn't know it was my IBS at the time). Anyways, after that I was scared to eat pizza for a while. Now I'm back to normal,(stable), can eat pizza. So I'd have to say, for myself at least, my IBS does not trigger ever time.

Hope you fell better soon.

Oh sweetie I am SO sorry to hear about your fiancee.

As for triggers, I'm very unstable right now, so I can't really help you out. I do know that when I was stable, I could eat pretty much anything, so maybe it just depends?

Oh Nelly, How can you say pizza is your nemesis while you're
eating the stuff! Geez, I guess it's not that big a nemesis
eh?

Hi Lannie, Sorry to hear about your love woes, but that's what
happens when you leave Michigan(Just joking). Yes, sometimes
triggers don't kick in, but that's not common. Unless you
had problems before, dairy stuff may not be a trigger for
you. Most of it is not a trigger for me, except cheese.
Wouldn't you know it<sigh>. So I've avoided pizza for quite
a while. If you can start eating as much as you can. You
don't want your weight to slide any lower. If you're not
really dairy sensitive, start drinking Ensure Plus's they'l
help get your weight up quickly. That's what I did when I
slid from 170 to 140, and got back up to 160. Eating pizza
will probably help you gain too, but the Ensures are better
for you. -Bob

I cannot say no to pizza. It cuts through all my IBS food defenses, sigh.

Nelly, Why not do what Bev does and use a good soy mozzerella
instead of regular cheese. There must be some places in the
DC area that will do that for you. -Bob

Hi Lannie,

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with your fiance. It is never easy, but it is better that it happened now and not when things were even more serious. I recently went through a break up and lost 10 pounds which is a lot for me. Breakups are awful for the nerves and stomach. I understand that you don't want to eat because you are upset but you need to take care of yourself too.

As far as pizza, if I am stable and take my SFS first, I can usually eat it with no problem. I don't dare try it when I am unstable. And there are other times that I will have pizza while I'm stable and get an attack! Sometimes the attack is immediately, somtimes it is days later. Gotta love IBS - the rules are always changing.

Hope that helps a little. Take care of yourself.

Kristi

Hey Lannie,

That really stinks! I completely understand how you feel. My boyfriend left me a little over a month ago and my stomach seemed permanently knotted up! I didn't have an appetite, partly because I was sad but also because my nerves were just too jittery to allow me to feel hungry.

I agree though with everyone, and speaking from my own experience, that you do need to eat. Letting your tummy get too empty for too long can really throw you back into the world of instability!

As for the pizza, I know that when I was prone to "cheating" on the diet I used to indulge. Sometimes I'd be fine, but if I indulged too much for too long it'd definitely catch up with me! I don't do pizza anymore unless I make it myself without cheese and meat. Bottom line, if it makes you feel better emotionally to grub on some pizza do it. But, just be wary that it could sneak up on you and cause you some pain
