Has anyone taken Paroxetine (Paxil) for IBS? If so, has it helped you?

If you do a search on paxil, using the search button with no time limits, you'll find lots of feedback on this. Some have loved it, but lots have hated it. I am one who hated it. Could not handle it for longer than a week or 2. And it's one of the hardest ADs to come off. So, be warned!

I been taking it for a few years for depression but recently found out it may help IBS. I recently went off it. Boy, was that a mistake! I got very bad IBS-C when I went off it, the only think that would help me was laxative to go to the bathroom. Now I just started back on it, but would hate to have to take it the rest of my life because of my IBS. But, I guess it is better than having all the pain I had when I was off it.

I couldn't take Paxil CR at all, gave me bad side effects. I could barely take it a week. Yet I can take regular Paxil without any problems.

Hi Angelina, I'm one of the people "who loves the stuff".But it's not like I crave it or anything, it simply works for me. I gobble 37.5 mg's of it per day, and as far as I can tell, it's been helping me to go and my anxiety has gone way down. Statisically, I think it's like a 50% chance it will work. My former GI doc said that's about what his results were with his patients. When I asked him if he had other IBS patients, he laughed, and said Oh yeah!, like over half of his total patients. -Bob

Angelina, That is strange. As far as I know, it's exactly the same stuff, one's just "controlled release", and that is what I'm taking. -Bob

Yeah, Maybe the CR kind stays in your body longer, no idea. But talked to other people that can't take regular Paxil, yet can take the CR kind.
