i am lactose intolerant, but whenever i accidentally eat dairy (usually butter) i find that i get really bad constipation. and when i do go, i have to strain to get it out. also the bms are smooth, small, and lumpy - anyone know why this happens and how it can be prevented? fiber doesnt seem to help me for what its worth

The easy and obvious solution is to avoid dairy. Completely. (It's not considered one of the worst trigger foods for nothin'!) If you read labels and make your dietary needs known to anyone else who ever cooks for you, there's really no reason at all to "accidentally" eat dairy, not even butter.
