What, Is this National Friday Go Out to Eat Night? Am I the
only one going home to eat leftovers...sure seems like it.
I've never seen so many going out to eat posts like there has
been today. Well it is a gorgeous day up here, 47 degrees and
sunny, unbelievable considering it's Jan.27! I must be even
better south of here, which is practically the whole country!
Maybe that explains it. Hmmm...maybe it's not such a bad
idea.<laugh>. -Bob

Crockpot Bourbon Breast of Chicken and a Netflix flick: either "Truly, Madly, Deeply" or "Stray Dog".

It's nice here, too - high of 43 and sunny - but tomorrow is supposed to be incredible - high of 54. On January 28th! In New Jersey!

Enjoy your weekend.

We just had rotisserie chicken from Fred Meyer. Damn I love that stuff! But is that considered "eating out"?

BTW, I never eat dinner. Just a piece of fruit and some rice cakes. Otherwise, it's too heavy too soon before bed.

So, technically, no, I ain't goin' out to eat tonite!

Hi Bev, Ah yes, it's only one o'clock your time. Who is Fred
Meyer? Is it like a Col. Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken? Yeah,
I suppose it counts, why not. Is your weather as good as ours
today? Everybody's in shock here, and I think they're all
going out to eat too. Geez, I better get going so I can get a
table. -Bob

saw that movie many years ago, back when I was living in
Valley Stream,L.I. Geez, that's about 34 years ago, my oh my.
Hope you enjoy your evening! -Bob

I can't really complain, though. I went out for sushi last Saturday, and then on Tuesday my boyfriend brought home MORE sushi for me. So maybe it was "Don't Cook Week" or something!

OMG, NO! Yikes! I wouldn't TOUCH that stuff with a ten-foot pole, much less EAT it. EWWWWWWWWW! Gross! That's just pure deep-fried fat! Hubby and I call that place "KFG."

Fred Meyer is a grocery chain, like Safeway. Don'tcha got one of them things up there in Michigan? Are you in the boonies?

No, our weather is not as nice as yours today. Note I said "TODAY." Hubby was born and raised in Detroit, so we're well aware of the kind of "NICE" weather you guys get! You can't pull the wool over THIS gal's eyes! Enjoy it while ya can!

I saw "Straw Dogs" more than 30 years ago, too. I started crying halfway through the movie and couldn't stop. Not sad, just unspeakably violent. Brilliant, but as far as I'm concerned, utterly unwatchable. Shudder.

"Stray Dog" is a Japanese film directed by Akira Kurosawa (who also did "Ran" which is a Japanese version of King Lear; "Throne of Blood" which is a Japanese version of "Macbeth" and probably the best Macbeth movie I've seen; the original "Seven Samurai"; "Rashomon"; and "Yojimbo", the original "Fistful of Dollars"/"Last Man Standing").

"Stray Dog" stars Toshiro Mifune, like a lot of Kurosawa's movies. The plot is that a young Tokyo policeman in the 1940's has his gun stolen. While he searches for it, the gun is used in a murder. Apparently, Kurosawa had great admiration for American film noir - we also saw "High and Low" by him.

"Straw Dogs". Shudder.

KFC sounds awful to me, even without thinking of the possible after effects. Popeye's, on the other hand, does not hurt me (strange but true).

We're going out tonight, too. Thai food! YUM!

Bev, Michiganians/Michiganders have Meijer. Different outfit. Same sort of set-up though, from what I understand. Meijer is like a SuperWalmart...but infinitely more super (not that I'm biased or anything). I actually miss Meijer. We don't have them in my neck of the Illinois woods.

Okay. I'll stop rambling.

I'm not eating out tonight either, Bob. I haven't been eating much of anything recently, actually. Same for sleeping. I'm tired as all hell and hungry too but I feel so wired and hyper right now. I just feel like being really productive or causing mischief with my friends... like screaming at random people out of my friends' car while she's going 80 mph. Lol.

I hope this passes soon though. I went from 102lbs at the start of the week to 96.5lbs today. And that scares me!

I went to lunch today with my room mate. It has been so long since I have sat in a real restaurant and was waited on. I had a couple of appetizers instead of a full meal. I had four of the biggest coconut shrimp I have ever seen and a stuffed quahog (clam). It has been ages since I have had real seafood. The fish here at "the home" is disgusting. It is supposed to be scrod, but it tastes like breaded cardboard.
I ate real s l o w ... to make it last and be easier on my tummy. So far, so good. Ohhhh, so goood.

The shrimp was battered and rolled in coconut and (shhhh)...deep fried.
I live at a retirement home. I'm on disability so going out to eat is a big deal considering the Gov't. lets me keep $60 a month and the rest pays the rent. Actually I get $50 a month because THEY made a mistake so I have to have $10 a month taken out till I pay it back.

Snorkie, The Loopers have Meijers, we Yoopers don't . But
there is a Walmart supercenter in Houghton now, much to a lot
peoples dismay. However, I haven't bought any food from it.
Actually, I haven't even been in it yet. Say, is there a lot
of safe food in Thai food. My Sister and Dad have been leaning
on me to go out to Thai food places in Chicago. -Bob

Sand, Oh yeah! That one the most violent flick that I can
remember seeing, but it was good to see that Dustin Hoffman
got the bad guys. I think that was a Stanley Kubrick film was

Well, there wasn't a DH and my landlady for almost 30 yrs. died. Her family sold the house and when I got the "notice to vacate", I kinda had a little attack of hysteria. I was born and lived on Cape Cod which has gotten crazy with rents, so I couldn't find a place I could afford. I also had a small business that was going under. So.... I was basically out on the street. I stayed with my brother for a while, but ..... After being hospitalized for depression and panic attacks the hospital found this place for me. It isn't perfect but as the saying goes around here "It's better than Pine Street" (the shelter in Boston). They treat us good and it is like a rooming house or dorm. So, that's my sucky last 3 years in a nutshell.

I think there have been a few threads about Thai food.

I do really well with chicken or shrimp pad thai, tom yum noodle soup, or drunken noodle chicken. Pad thai is not spicy; the other two have a bit of a bite, but it's not over powering to me. The noodles are rice noodles. There's also stuff with regular rice, but I like the noodle dishes best.

Just steer clear of things made with coconut milk, such as mussman curries.

"Straw Dogs" was a Sam Peckinpah movie. I don't think I've seen one since. "Clockwork Orange" was Stanley Kubrick and it was also super-violent, but it didn't bother me as much - I thought it was all about its own violence and was therefore rather stupid and tiresome. By contrast, "Straw Dogs" was upsetting because it actually had what started out as a somewhat normal story, then turned into something else entirely through a process that seemed all too plausible. Shudder.

After all that, we watched "Truly, Madly, Deeply" instead - it turned out to be one of those terribly understated BBC films that took a while to get into, but was quite good in the end.

The CPBBofC (CrockPot Bourbon Breast of Chicken) was, as always, wonderful.
