Green tea like regular black tea comes from leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. Unlike black tea, green tea leaves are steamed, or baked, shortly after plucking. Black tea is oxidized, often referred to as "fermenting," after plucking. Because green tea is not fermented, the finished leaves are very similar to the natural leaves from a tea bush. An average cup (6 oz) of green tea contains approximately 30 milligrams of caffeine. This compares to a cup of black tea, which has about 40 milligrams, and a cup of brewed coffee, which has 120 milligrams of caffeine. Taken from http://www.greentea.com/faq.html

An herbal tea, tisane, or ptisan is an herbal infusion other than that made with real (white, yellow, black, oolong, or green) tea (Camellia sinensis) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbal_tea

I drink Saleda Caffeine Free Green Tea. I would look for the boxes that say Caffeine Free. I think it all depends on which kind you get. Hope this helps

I guess you learn something new everyday. I never would have thought the teas we (people with IBS) drink for comfort would have contained caffeine. So how about chamomile and peppermint teas?

If a tea has tea leaves in it (green tea, black tea, white tea, oolong tea) and it's not labeled as "decaffeinated", then it has caffeine in it.

Other teas/tisanes that do not have tea leaves as an ingredient do not have caffeine. It's confusing when people call something a "tea" when it doesn't have tea leaves in it, but that's the current usage.

Note that green tea is fairly low in caffeine. You can make mostly decaf tea by steeping your tea for a minute, discarding the liquid, and steeping it again (may take longer than usual). This method works best for oolongs and green teas.

chamomile and peppermint teas definitly don't have any caffine in them...they're herbal.

There's decaffeinated green tea. I like Presidents Choice and Tetley.
