Hi Skywalker,

The homeopathic remedies I have tried come two ways. The pills contain lactose and the solutions contain alchohol, both which are triggers for IBS. Just so you know.

Take care,
June

well since you are dissolving the pills in your mouth, would the lactose still cause digestive problems?

The Lactose used in homeopathic meds don't bother me. It only contains pharmaceutical grade lactose with no milk proteins such as casein and whey. I talked to a pharmacist about it. I told him I was lactose intolerant and he said that lactose intolerant people would not show symptoms of homeopathic meds unless they ingested 50 at one time. He said there isn't enough lactose (especially missing the milk proteins, which lactose people cannot digest) in homeopathic meds to affect lactose individuals......UNLESS THEY ARE TRUELY ALLERGIC TO LACTOSE!! Like anaphylaxis, allergic. So, I use the nausea ones....they don't bother me.
I think it's more of an individual thing when it comes to homeopathic meds as to whether or not your body can handle it. Personally, I don't feel anything at all when I take them. It might help a tiny bit, but nothing to write home about.

thats the thing about homeopathic meds--im a vegan and found out most homeopathic pills are pressed w/lactose. that sucks for both my IBS and vegan diet b/c occasionally i cheat on my IBS diet and make up for it later but i wont cheat on my vegan diet. so when it comes to alternatives for pain, im usually at a loss for a solution. what type of meds were you looking to try? there's probably another type of something you can take that wont contain lactose. good luck!

A few months ago I found out birth control pills also contain lactose in them. They say it just makes swallowing easier and the amount it contains is very very small that you'd have to take quite a lot to add up to a glass of milk's worth.
