Does Dreaming Make You Sick?

I've been stable for awhile now and thankfully have few attacks, usually due to drugs more than food. But lately I've been waking up feeling very sick, barely able to make it to the bathroom in time, only to realize that it was a dream, not reality. I'm dreaming about being sick, with cramps, nausea, "D" of course, doubled-over, and then I wake up and have a hard time shaking myself into reality. Those feelings stay with me to the extent that I feel really sick, and some mornings it takes hours for my conscious mind to tell my subconscious, "get over it; it was just a stupid dream!"

I've been up now for an hour and a half, and my tummy is finally starting to calm down. The dream is fading, and as it does, I feel better.

Does this happen to any of you guys?

Bev

but I don't have D, so it's not dreaming of D. But I have dreams that cause me to be upset and I have a hard time getting over it. I tell myself---IT'S NOT REAL---but I still feel crappy.
I personally think some of my digestive problems are the physical manifestations of stress, upset, worry, etc. So if you're having this mental issue (the dream), it's like it tricks your body into thinking it's real.

The real question is: why are you dreaming of D? Have you ever used the CDs?

Ginger

P.S. I think dreams are very powerful. I don't mean in any kind of ESP/voodoo kind of way...I just think we should pay more attention to them.

I had bad dreams last night and I'm still not over them! So I agree Ginger, we def. should pay more attn. to dreams and they can affect our moods, etc.

Throughout my life I've had dreams of vomiting, peeing and what not and woke up to "carry them out" But never just bad dreasm and then not carrying them out

But I def think it's something to consider Bev! I wouldn't ignore this. Have you done the hypno tapes? If so, were they helpful?

Have you been afraid of hav ing attacks lately?

*hugs* I hope they go away soon!!!!

Sending you lots of love,

Bev - This happens to me too! I have had horrible dreams of having an attack and have woken up feeling ill, but those feelings dissipate as I fully awaken. Drinking some tea and taking it easy in the morning helps me get myself together and I try to shake the memory of what I dreamt. Sometimes telling someone else helps. Fortunately, I don't usually have an attack as a result of a dream. But that unsettling feeling can stay with me all day if I keep thinking about it or thinking the dream means something or is some sort of premonition.

When I really started focusing on following Heather's diet and getting stable, I kept having what I call "Surprise! Poop!" dreams. For example, in one dream, I flushed the toilet and suddenly poop fell from the ceiling and piled all around me (neot on me). In another dream, I was cooking, and when I opened a cupboard door -- Surprise! Poop! Perfectly formed logs of poop were piled up in place of canned fruit and my dear Potato Buds. Very disgusting dreams, actually, and sorry if I shared a bit too much information.

Sometimes R.E.M. makes me wake-up in an ill state, that does fade, but only after about 2-3 hours.

I dream and wake-up feeling physically battered.

I dream and barely make it to the toilet.

Sometimes, my other consciousness is challenged in awakening me to respond the the physical animal self's response/resonance with the dream. It seems to impact my primative consciousness on a very base levil.

Yes, some of them are medication side effects. I suspect (half-know) that some are rooted in past traumas.

It's strange, but I know that the subconscious effects my gastrocolic reflex. No wonder, hypno. is effective for so many IBS'ers.

Weird stuff, eh!

Kate, IBS-D.

Quote:

Have you been afraid of having attacks lately?

Are you psychic? OMG! You BET!

One of my biggest problems is entertaining. I dread it. I haven't entertained in YEARS, avoiding it at all cost. I'm an obsessive compulsive who doesn't think anything I do is good enough. It's ridiculous, because I don't judge others when I go to their homes, not in the least -- yet I expect absolute perfection of myself. Thus, I just don't entertain. Simple fix, right?

WRONG. I got "stuck" with an invitation I just had to extend. I want this friend to know I care for her and want to reciprocate her generosity; I had no choice but to invite her over, and she asked that she be invited just before Christmas so she could see my tree.

She's coming tonight.

Yesterday I spent the entire day cleaning, CLEANING, CLEANING! Hubby helped a lot. When I found myself cleaning all my copper pots and pans and polishing all my silver, I realized it was time to quit. Then I got out the holiday Yankee Candles and began melting them down for fragrance throughout the house. (I have to have everything just perfect!) Here's the final result:

I went to bed satisfied that I had done all I could. This morning I woke up to a very upset body, but it was totally the result of dreams. Yes, I have gone through the hypnosis program -- thank God!

I'm not freaking out -- not yet -- but I'll be downing Equalactin in no time. I have the mulled cider working as we speak, and now I'm about to make the mousse. The dinner itself will be a snap; I've made it a million times.

I hope future dinners with my friend will be easier and far more casual; I don't go through this as well as you guys do!

My biggest concern of all -- more so than the food -- is suffering an attack through it all -- not through the food or the ambience, but the stress in preparing it!

Thanks; it's good to know others have attack dreams.

I have this same problem. I invite people over, friends---who I've known for ever, most don't have their own houses, and we're all young---and I totally stress! I spend hours cleaning until my back hurts and I'm irritable. And I'm a baker---I don't cook dinners, that's my husband's deal---but I'll spend a whole day baking and I'm NEVER 100% satisfied. EVEN though everyone likes what I make. I always think it could have been better. Prettier. Something. And if my husband tries to talk to me while I'm baking? Forget it! I tell him just to steer clear, cause I'm too stressed. (Even though I love to bake?!?!?)

And when I go to my friends' places---I never inspect how clean the house is, or spend too much time analyzing the quality of food. What on earth is my (our) problem!?!?

Oh yeah! When hubby comes into the kitchen and offers his help, I yell, "get outta my kitchen!" This morning he made the mistake of offering some help. I said, "OMG, I forgot to buy cheesecloth! What will I tie my spices in for my mulled cider!?" He grabbed his keys and drove into town -- mostly to get away from me -- but also to stop at the store to pick up the cheesecloth. He's a gem and deserves better then me!

Yes, you're right; I never inspect how clean my friends' homes are. In fact, the dirtier, the more comfortable I feel. I don't think it has anything to do with expectations from others, it's expectations from ourselves. We expect more from ourselves for some stupid reason, and no matter what we do, it's not good enough to satisfy ourselves.

Virginia had us over for dinner a month ago, and her dessert was a total flop; also, the salmon wasn't totally done, so she had to put it back in the oven. I didn't care; it didn't bother me a bit. But God forbid my mousse comes out blah, OMG! (Not to worry -- I have a backup; I bought some Soy Dream Mocha Fudge, just in case, and my home-made butter cookies that I made the other day are terrific.)

It's SOOOO no wonder we have IBS! Oy.

..... I need some Jack......

Last night I had a dream that my stomach hurt and when I woke up, I thought I was going to puke! I had really bad reflux....so, I grabbed the Pepto and Diovol Plus and was okay after about an hour. I don't know why I do that......

I dream about being sick sooo much that it probably actually is inhibiting my recovery.

I'm sorry this happened to you but I'm sure most of us that have IBS go through it at one time or another. I hope you have happy dreams, tonight, and every night, thereafter!

But I gotta confess...I'm not sure what type of alcohol Jack is Wanna educate me? I think it's time I give it a shot (or is this not the kind of thing you drink from a shot glass?)

Jack Daniels is the smoothest, nicest bourbon on the market. You NEVER mix it with anything because (1) it's a sin, and (2) you ruin the taste. Also, sweet mixes with booze can really make you sick.

Yes, you can sip Jack from a shot glass, but it's really best over ice. I use a very small glass, the smallest I can find, and I fill it with shaved ice, then pour the Jack over, and oooooooooh......

...... it's soothing going down, and my colon relaxes immediately. (Sorry.)

Oh yeah, Jack ROCKS! Hmmm.... think I'll have a little now......

BTW, my mousse turned out FANTASTIC! Unfortunately, it's pure whipping cream; I SOOOO don't know how I'm gonna get past it tonight!

Thanks Girlfriend!

I thought jack was whiskey??!! NO??? Anyway, I can't drink it straight.....too much heat. I always drank it with a "splash" of Diet Coke, just to tame some of the heat. Before IBS, of course. Haven't drank at all since IBS.

Hey, Girl!

NO, I haven't posted it over there on the Hypno board. I don't usually have bad dreams like that when I'm stable, but when I'm unstable it happens alot.

I don't know how the hypno is going, anymore. I keep falling asleep through the sessions, now. I didn't used to but my brain is getting used to it and I fall asleep every time now. So, I'm hoping my subconscious is soaking it up because I don't remember doing it!! I hardly remember turning it on!! LOL!!!

Yikes! Aren't you afraid lightening might strike you?! MIXING JACK?! OMG!

Yes, Jack is whiskey; whiskey is bourbon. It's the BEST! Granted, the first sip is a bit "hot," as you say, but the next sip goes down sooooooooo well! Also, if you pour it over SHAVED ice, it gets watered down very quickly.

When my tummy is a little rummbly and I'm feeling anxious about something, a little Jack -- I said "LITTLE" -- totally calms it down.

He's my best friend!

We have TONS of whiskey in the house! LOL Hubby somehow collected it before we got married (People gave it to him as presents ). I assume it would SAY Jack Daniels on the bottle? If so, we don't have any

Mmmmmm! mousse! Bev, I am on a sugar free diet right now and just craving sugar (and cheese no cheese either!) like crazy (peanut butter too oddly enough! Although, I AM PMSing...)...so maybe it's a good thing I can't make it to dinner tonight? I think I'd blow my "detox diet" in a minute after entering your pad!

I knew it'd turn out perfect...how could it not!!

Ahhh. It's gonna be the best party ever! Send us more pics of your place, ok? It's absolutely beautiful! *hugs* (I can't remember if I commeneted or not...but I just LOVE your tree!! )

LOL!!! That's funny......I picked that up from my dad. He always drank Jack and Coke. Well, the sugar made me sick. So, I always drank Jack and Diet Coke!!

Well, when I can drink it again I will just try it over shaved ice. You're right, the water would help take away some of the heat. I can't ever have Diet Coke again, anyway because of the sugar alcohol.

I'm with you girl. Jack used to be my best friend but I had to give him up!! Liked to killed me! I was drinking Jack the night I got sick with IBS and it hasn't went away, ever since!!! I woke up with a hangover and have had a permanent hangover for over 2 years, now!!! GEEEEZ!!!!!

D-attack NIGHTMARES new

Reged: 04/02/05

When D is really bad, NIGHTMARES terrorize me. I suspect that this is kind of a neurochemical effect. I literally dream of dying, of not being able to make it to get some water. I dream of nobody finding me.

When I have pain related attacks/cramps, I relive past physical traumas in my sleep. There are alot of "battle" motifs. Weapons surface as images, too. I'm usually stabbed repetitively in some sort of way.

Also, and this is rather intimate but I don't mind sharing.
When I have swimming in Sh*t nightmares, I have nightmares/flashbacks of a former violent anal violation.

Sometimes, I have had dreams of being forced to eat fecal matter, or of myself saving the D and making a big stew for dinner or someone I dislike to consume.

Lately, though, the nightmares involve violent pain sequences. I often have the "not being able to make it in time" nightmares.

Kate.

I was looking forward to New Years Eve with the possiblity of becoming so completely wasted that it would be practically impossible to walk, talk, or think basic thoughts.
I was wondering though, even if I was to ...water down this particular substance or vodka, and mix a SFS into it. I wonder if it would be possible to become even mildly intoxicated.

Alli, trust me. It ain't worth it.

My suggestion is to have one drink -- ONE DRINK ONLY -- preceded by a SF of some kind (crackers or a roll), followed by more SF. That one drink can sustain you for a long time if you just SIP IT. Don't mix it with anything, because it'll just make you sick. Drink it straight, but SIP IT. Ask for a glass of ice water so you can drink a little water in between sips. It'll make the drink last longer.

Trust me, you really don't wanna get "completely wasted." You're kidding me here, aren'tcha? You're pulling my chain. That's it. This is a big joke. Right?

Really, if you haven't been drinking in awhile, then one drink will relax your colon and make you feel happy. What more could you want? Believe me, you don't want to be sick all the next day, regretting the night before. It'll just ruin it for you, and you'll up with rotten memories.

One Jack, straight up, with a glass of ice water on the side. Ooooooh, BABY!

ENJOY!

Who wouldn't? Without the consequences. Now I was only spit-balling, but that doesn't mean I wasn't actually considering it. I mean. ..it's New Years. But yes, I understand, horrible feelings afterwards.
Anyways, don't mind me. I was actually just curious. But I will definately let you know what happens, no matter what I decide to do.
