I heard from a worker at a health food store that the fat in flax seed can actually help you burn more fat because its a, "good fat." Is this true?

Flax seeds contain the EFA Omega 3 which is very healthy for your body. Everything in moderation though.

But does it really help you burn more fat like I've heard and read? And if it does, how much do I consume a day? I'm currently taking 1tbs worth a day (half in the morning, half in the evening).

I was taking 1 tbs once a day in my shake and it helped alot. But, right now it irritates my reflux so I cannot use it.

Although this sounds like and oxymoron, your body needs fat to lose weight, and the right fats are Omega 3 and 6 fats. Relying solely on the flax to lose weight will not achieve that goal. It needs to be in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise. When I was weight training, I would either take 4-6 capsules a day with meals or up to 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds. Normally if you take the ground flax seeds, it's good to start off slowly with 1/2 or 1 teaspoon per day and in the following days gradually increase the quantity you take. Too much at once might make you bloated, gassy, etc. I hope this helps. Here is some more info on flax http://www.greatplainsflax.com/weightloss.htm

I work out 3 times a week. So I'm fairly active. I am only taking up to 1tbs worth a day, too.
