Small breakfast, snack, snack, lunch, snack snack, dinner, snack, snack.

And those snacks are usually small, and IBS friendly. As Heather's book puts it, it's about making sure your tummy/gut is never empty.

Moderation is a key though.

Yes, I generally consume what might be called supper. I have to eat it very slowly or else I feel ill. There's almost always IF and always SF. I prefer rice to potatoes, a green vegetable, and an SF vegetable. Sometimes, I start out with soup or a high SF appetizer/ hors'deurve/pre-supper munchie or snack(I used to do salad but that is most disagreeable at this time). If I'm not in the mood for this first course, I'll have it later on or for lunch the next day.

Truly, though, I cannot stomach a whole potatoe. I usually buy mini potatoes.

but I just make sure to not get too hungry between meals and I attempt not to eat too much, although I often do.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Question ... did you mean you are eating two baked potatoes at the same time, in a single sitting ... or did you mean you have two baked potatoes throughout the entire day?

Next .. just to show an example of how your meals should be spread out, this is what I will be eating today:

Morning snack -8:00- Two pieces of white toast w/ a thin layer of peanut butter, and an apple.

2nd morning snack -10:00- One bowl of whole grain shredded oats cereal w/ rice milk

Lunch -12:00- 4 pieces of safe sushi, w/ either some rice or a small piece of bread

Afternoon snack -2:00- Baked tostitos with a safe salsa

2nd snack -4:00- A safe smoothie

Dinner -6:30- Mushroom Barley soup with a bread roll

I hope that helps. I really do hope things start looking up for you. Don't give up!!!

I always have about 4 oz of fish or chicken, a full serving of rice or quinoa or a potato (about 5 1/2 oz) and a serving of veggies (about 3 oz). Then I have 2 Fig Newmons for desert.

I don't know if this is too much, but it's what I must eat for me. I don't mind the bloat at night as much because I'm home and can wear sweats if it's that bad.

Hi Alli,

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but are you eating the skins of the potatoes? If so, this might be the problem.

Do you take a SFS like Benefiber? This causes some people lots of gas.

Have you tried taking a Phazyme? It really helps me when I'm bloated.

Hope you get better soon

Yes - I mix. It's better to sort of graze really. Small amounts practically all day so that your stomach is never very full or empty. It really helps with bloating and preventing attacks.

Are you saying that: having a variety of foods for your supper will not cause bloating as opposed to one single type of food? For instance, if I ate 2 baked potatoes for supper there would definately be bloating, but if I was to consume the same quantity of those potatoes but with different foods -there would be less bloating problems?
But something recommended and so filling (to me) such as a smoothie, would bloat me as well! Does this mean that my toleration for food quantity is very low?? And would that also mean that I have to have something equivalent to a small snack for supper to avoid the risk of bloating?

I meant with one sitting, which would be my main meal of the day the rest of the day would include snacks, such as a couple of arrowroot crackers or something.
I believe that with any one of your mentioned snacks would cause bloating for me.
When I eat something like: 4 or 5 arrowroot crackers, I would be fine. But when I go to eat a plate of supper, (I don't even think it matters what it is) I will become bloated anyway!! I am wondering if I have a very low tolerance to food quantity. This would be very difficult.
For supper today, I am going to have a peice of Halibut fish. If I have one peice, I will probably be bloated. Aside from the potatoes, would any of you experience the same?

Thank you for replying! Here are some answers:
No I do not eat the skin off of the potato
Yes I do take benefiber. I know that benefiber makes me bloated on an empty stomach, but I think I might be okay with it.
No, I have never tried Phazyme. What is it? Do you need a prescription for it? I am not on any sort of medication for this.

I was thinking though, that maybe I shouldn't be getting SF and IF in one meal like supper, as I often do. Would it be safe to eat SF all throughout the day, then when supper comes, have a meal that contains all IF? I was thinking that maybe that is the problem.
