Lifestyle change that significantly helped my IBS-C

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

I need to share what's helped me w/my IBS-C.

A few months ago, I went on a business trip overseas for a few weeks. There, due to my work schedule, I had no time for my pre-work bathroom session (you know). Here at home, I used to stress out about that, making sure that I'd have enough time to go bathroom before work. After I'd wake up, I'd drink lots of water to get the urge to go. Or i'd eat breakfast. That was where I was going wrong.

At my business trip, I had no time, so I'd grab a cup of coffee (I'm fine w/coffee) and a granola bar I'd packed from home, and I'd have to walk a good 1/2 mile or mile to the office. Well, well, well- I'd later naturally produce a comfortable and solid kind... I was so comfortable and this happened everyday! My bloat was gone. No more C.

I return home and I came back to my old ways. Wake up, drink something/eat something, struggle to go at the slightest urge, go only a little, or if I went 'a lot,' it would not be solid, but little things. I'd leave the bathroom soo bloated. I would then go on my daily morning walk after my bathroom session, still bloated, but would return from my walk still bloated as ever and many times w/cramps. This was a typical day.

So then one day I was thinking, what was I doing so well during that trip that made me feel so awesome and the way I used to feel before IBS-C?

So I tried the other way I did while I was overseas. I would wake up (very hungry) w/a normal flat stomach, go for my daily morning walk- and it was awesome, return home w/o any cramps or bloat, shower, put on my work clothes and eat breakfast. No beverage. About an hour and a half later at work, I feel this gentle urge to go so I go to the bathroom, and voila! Solid, comfortable and no post-session bloat! Flat stomach all day, no bloating.

It was a tiny lifestyle change for me.

Just wanted to share...

i'm a little confused - was the lifestyle change the morning activity plus the absence of a breakfast beverage?

I'm also confused. Are you sure you had IBS-C? Sounds like chronic constipation. I don't usually eat breakfast, sometimes toast and no beverage. (8am) I work out before supper (3pm).
I guess that wouldn't work for me, would it?

Yes, I had IBS. I was diagnosed w/it early this year. Even when I would have a good bm in the mornings before work, I'd often times get horrible cramps and spasms on my left side. I'm so happy now. Happy Thanksgiving.

I think the problem was I focused too much on trying to 'go' to the bathroom, so I forced myself to eat or drink something to get things moving. I don't do that anymore and just let it come naturally after I exercise.

Exercise is a wonderful thing. There are times when I'm heading towards my usual C or stressing out and heading towards D - a nice long walk where I don't think about my IBS calms any spasms and gets me closer to stable.

Ah, Blue24,very good change. Drinking a lot of water to generate a BM is not a good idea, it can push up your blood
pressure way too high, and cause a stroke. I know from
personal experience. For all those out there that are doing
it,Never drink more than 48 oz. of watery fluids within an
hour unless you can piss like a race horse. Blue, again,
great to hear about your success! -Bob

is what youre saying about drinking that much water true?? i know im young but..i drink alot of water to generate a BM. i drink so much to keep the psyllium i take activated in hopes of having better BMs and less bloating. isnt it necessary to drink alot of water?? i always thought it was and thats why i followed that rule. i want to try Blue's method. i just found out i have low good cholesterol and need to exercise more to get it up again. please reply back to this as soon as you get a chance. im really anxious to know about that water fact! thanks bob!

what bob was saying, i believe, is to be careful of drinking too much water all at once. for everyone, with SFS, but especially Cs, a lot of water is really important. bob was warning against drinking too much all at one go - like a 48 oz chug. but you do need to drink a lot throughout the day.

Thanks, Bob. It's made the biggest difference in my life, I can't stop smiling. I'm skinny again all over and am back to my natural thin self. I had the best weekend stylin in my clothes and was so happy. Glad to hear you're doing well.
