Hi I am new to the board and currently in the process of getting tested for IBS (long storey,I have always been C but latley it been D) any ways I have been eating the safe foods for two weeks now almost exclusively (soluble fiber foods)and have been more normal than ever before. I am waiting for the book to arive, And I am having day dreams of stcking my head in the crisper and having a feast. My diet before this was mostly fresh fruit and veggies and whole grains ( I havent had white bread since I was a kid and now i eat it all the time) So can I eat fresh raw foods at all? please help I feel like I'm going to get scurvy or somthing.

LOL - I love the crisper dream! If you are feeling stable and up to it, you can try a little of something. But, it took me a really long time to get brave enough to do that. And, I rarely do it now. I am fine with salad, but they are small and at the end of a meal - I wouldn't dare have an entire salad as a meal! Some are not fine with it at all though. How do you feel about eating veggies/fruits cooked? It does make them easier to digest.

Glad you are feeling better so far!

I like salads of cooked veggies. Much safer.

Kate, IBS-D.

I'm IBS-D, and when I'm stable I can eat a salad for dinner with rye crackers or sourdough bread. The secret is that I use non-fat Thousand Island dressing (by Kraft) and put a lot of cooked curly pasta in the salad to give it that soluble fiber. And I have my Acacia before eating. Once a week is okay for me. But I know it's not for everyone.

It's when the contents of the "salad" are cooked, unless of course they are fruit. It's more a plate of assorted cooked veggies/fruits. I love "mushroom" oriented salads. Often I'll eat cooked/pureed greens (i.e. spinach) as a part of a "salad." Potatoe salad is another example. I love composing arrangements of veggies or fruits and giving them a theme or mood. If they are centered around components high in SF they are rather safe, i.e. Beets, carrots, zucchini, potatoe, mushrooms, avocado, etc.

Kate.

if you're stable, you could add a couple of raw cherry tomatoes or chopped baby spinach to this? Sometimes, I'll prepare my vegetables cooked or pureed, but then I'll eat a couple of raw tomatoes slices or cherry tomatoes or have one little raw baby carrot just to satisfy that craving for raw vegetables. I do the same with fruit, where I'll mush it, puree it, cook it, whatever, but then keep one fresh slice (like with apples). It works for me: satisfying and no attacks.

I sure do! And I do that myself. I love raw mushrooms!!! Sometimes I get Matchstick carrots and toss a few in. Cucumber, a handful of lettuce or baby spinach, (in a sandwich/"salad" or vegetable/fruit arrangement) scallions/herbs/apple/pear/banana/mango/kiwi/papaya/avocado/peach slices -- all the way! You'll know pretty quickly whether or not it's a good habit.

Kate.

Hello RumblyTumbly,
I've had this IBS cramping for four months now,and whatever I eat,or drink I get cramping and loud stomach noises. May I ask since you are getting normalized, what exactly do you eat and drink? if you don't mind me asking. Everybody is different I know, but I'm so tired of this constant pain, all I eat is oatmeal and applesauce and even water to me tastes terrible these days. Thank You.
