Just going to do a little vent...and then I will ask some questions...

I did a Colonoscopy last June, I got to do the all day prep with the nasty stuff and the pills. After I went through all that drama, I had to change doctors because everytime I went in, the Dr. changed his mind on what I have. First, I had ulcers in my stomach and ulcerative colitis in my intestions with a hyatial heria and GERD. The next appt (a couple weeks later) he decided there were no ulcers anywhere (even though the nurse showed me pictures) and all I had was GERD, hyatal hernia and colitis. The next appt, he decided that I had GERD, hyatal hernia and IBS! When he tried to give me Zelnorm (my main symptom is D) I went to my primary care Dr and got referred to the closest GI dr 2 hours away.

So, I went to my old Dr's office and filled out the form to get ALL my records/pictures transferred to the new Dr. When I got there yesterday, they had rec'd NOTHING!!! So, they called and asked them to fax my whole file. What did they get??? A nice fat fax with all my papers??? NOPE!!! They got a 2 page doc of my test results from my endoscope! No Colonoscopy results or anything.

So, this new doctor (who seems awsome!) has to do a new Colonoscopy to determine what is wrong with me. Yipee twice in a 6 month period!!! Anyway - this new Dr. does the perscription for the gallon bottle of stuff the you start at 4 pm and it is done at 8 pm. Then you have D for a couple of hours and its over - has anyone done this one??? I did the all-day one last time. It wasn't awful, because it didn't hurt, but it sucked because it was all day. I guess my only concern is that I am going to have D all night and wont be able to sleep. Can anyone tell me how good this stuff is? Any reccomendations?

Anyway, hopefully, this doctor can figure out what is going on with me. Its sucks I have to redo the test. If only I had requested to go to this dr in the first place - but, nooooo, I had to choose the small town Dr. because he is closer!!!! Geez...

Anyway, done venting - any advice??

That does not sound fun at all! I'm sorry, I have never taken the gallon stuff before.....the first GI doc I went to wanted to do that and I changed doctors because I'm chicken! I have to do the fleet prep on Monday for mine. I hope they get to the bottom of your problems! It sounds like you have everything under the sun according that that other doctor......
Good Luck! Keep us posted on how it goes!

I hate trying *new* and *exciting* things like this. I kind of wish I could do the other prep instead, just because I know what to expect. Then again, the lady at the Dr. office made it seem so easy. Who knows? I am pretty excited about this Dr. He said even if they would have gotten the proper results from my old Dr, he isn't a specialist (just a general sugeon) and wouldn't even have known what to look for. He asked me so many question the other guy didn't even think to ask - symptoms that I thought were not even related to this. AND he actually cared that I lost 70 pounts in 5 months! Geez...

OH, my goodness that is a lot of weight to be losing! I was complaining about losing 12 lbs in 3 months! I hope you don't have anything serious. It's really hard for me to eat right now because of my acid reflux. I don't respond well to proton pump inhibitors so Pepto Bismol is my best friend, especially today! I almost threw up at about 2:15 because the acid was so bad. But, I took some pepto and now I'm munching on some crackers. Do you think you just have IBS?? What's your diet like right now??
Take Care!

I did lose a lot of weight. I still lose anywhere from .5 to 2 pounds per week. I was losing around 10 pounds a week. I was throwing up all the time and what I could keep down, I pooped right out. It was extremly scary - for a long time I was scared to eat, so I would goes days without eating until my stomach was calm enough to try again. I have GERD really bad - I take Prevacid twice a day and it took over a month to start working. It's twice the recommended dosage, so I have to see a specialest just to get it. I don't respond to any other meds - not even Pepto.

I know I have a hyatal hernia and GERD, but from there I do not know whats wrong with me. My mom has ulcerative colitis and she started her symptoms at the same age as me. I know I had colitis and ulcers in my intestions, but my old doc never would say the words ulcerative colitis - he actually never gave me a straight answer.

As far as eating goes, I follow Heather's diet to the letter. I figure since it covers ulcerative colitis, then it will help me either way. I just made some changes for my GERD - like no tomatoes or uncooked acidy foods and I watch what spices I use, nothing hot. I also avoid anything with small seeds (they get stuck in ulcers - ew). Because of my hyatial hernia, I eat small meals frequently and chew everything really good and slow. I think the diet and some of the meds they have me on have helped me kind of stabalize. I still have attacks, but definitly not as bad and not as frequent.

Wow, this sounds just like me. It is really hard for me to keep food down right now. I despise throwing up so I keep downing the Pepto to keep the food down. It's really hard, though! I didn't respond to Prilosec, Prevacid or Protonix. So, I don't know what I'm going to do. Maybe he will try to put me on Nexium or something. I have only been able to eat crackers and pretzels throughout the day. I start the day off with cream of wheat or oatmeal and I digest that okay but after that, the day just goes downhill from there.

The doctor thinks I have ulcerative colitis too because my grandfather had it and I'm starting to produce more of the same symptoms of it. It would suck to find out that I have ulcerative colitis but I would be an answer that I'm willing to accept besides the general IBS diagnosis. I have never been this bad before. It can't just be IBS.....I guess it's possible, though. I just never knew it could be this bad! So debilitating......

I soooo know what you are going through right now...I was kind of the opposite. When I woke up I was the worst and then down pills like Lomotil and Phenegren (sp?) just to get going on my day. I didn't leave the house for months because I was just too sick. The only time I would leave was for the Dr.

Honestly, right now, I don't care what I have, I just want to know. Neither one of the conditions is curable and both are painful. My mom still suffers from ulcerative colitis because she refuses to change her diet and take the proper meds. I honestly just need to know what is wrong. I don't know why it is soooo important to me, but I need to be able to name it and get on with my life.

How long were you on the Prevacid?

I was on the Prevacid for a few months and it made me completely lose my appetite as did all the others. So, I could never get anything down when I would take it, which only made it worse....

I only leave my house now when I go to the doctor's, right now, too. I'm too sick to leave. I get nauseated when I get on the road to go anywhere. I can't take the phenegran (?) because the doctor says I'm on too many other things right now. Too many other things that keep me groggy. I still seem to get nauseated, even being on all these other meds. However, I am not half as nauseous now that I quit taking the Prilosec. All of those proton pump inhibitors make me nauseous and I lose my appetite all together. At least right now, I'm hungry.....It's just really hard keeping the acid down......
What do I do??? Surgery??

EEEK!! Your mom really should start taking care of her UC or she could risk losing her colon. Alot of people end up that way......I will take the meds if the doc tells me I have UC. I don't want to lose my colon like my cousin did.....

I know! Can you believe my mom??? I keep telling her if you change your diet, you will get better....but nooooo...she says she has lived with this longer and knows how to handle it. I don't know anything because I am just now going through it. Stupid...I hate calling my mom that, but it is exactly how she is acting. Not to mention, my grandma lost her colon!!!!!!!!!! Jimmeny Cricket - she sure does live in a bubble...And you would think I would be able to go to her for advice and compassion when I am going through an episode...NOPE!!! Of course I can't! My pain is no where near hers...so, we just avoid the subject all together. When i go to visit them for Thanksgiving I am cooking the whole meal so I can actually eat. Maybe that will show her she wont get sick after eating. I just hope once she sees me getting beter, she will follow along.
