I had an impromptu cholesterol non-fasting test on Tuesday. They called with the results and said it was slightly high and that I should exercise and watch what I eat. Being I have PMS, and such advice is ludicrous, I wanted to freak out. I told them I am dairy free and meat free and so since I don't eat cholesterol how could I have it?
How accurate are the non-fasting tests does anyone know? I think I might call my doc and ask about it. I mean how could I exercise more or eat any better?! I mentioned it might be family history based and they said maybe.

Little Minnie,
I don't know about the non-fasting cholesterol test, but I have had my cholesterol checked and I have high cholesterol.
I asked my Dr. when he told me that, how can I have high cholesterol? I weigh 96 lbs.I am limited to what I can eat how can that be? He said it's hereditary to thank my parents for it. So even if we don't eat red meat, dairy, we can still have high cholesterol. It stinks doesn't it?
To make sure I would ask your Dr like you said.
Terry

I am underweight, eat low fat, no red meat, egg yolks, etc. Nothing high in cholesterol at all! Yet, my test came back with elevated cholesterol.

I just don't worry about it. I can't change anything in my diet, as I don't eat anything with even moderate levels of cholesterol. So, life goes on. Whatever!
