Hi Matt,
Sounds like my story. I was diagnosed about two months ago with IBS-C and given Zelnorm. Supposedly, Zelnorm was not clinically tested in men but aside from that, I find it to work for me (female though). Taken as directed, along with following Heather's diet religiously and taking Acacia Fiber. I also take her Peppermint tablets religiously when pain and bloating comes on. They work very well for me. I know the frustration of giving up everything, but for me it has been worth it, without pain. Once I started Acacia fiber, peppermint pills, and following the diet, to a tee, my pain went away. I don't have a prob with all trigger foods. I can drink nonfat milk in small quantities and bake with one or two eggs, but the best thing to do is cut out all bad for a month and then slowly add one thing in moderation, to see how your body reacts. Workout hard and relax. Stress is a huge contributor. Hope this helps. Buy Heather's book "Cooking for IBS", it is great, lots of flavors. Take care Good Luck Jen
