That's why they're recommended against by Heather's books - they're too harsh, and they just screw your system up further. Plus, if you use them regularly, you can get dependent on them.
Sorry to hear you're in so much pain! Hope you feel better quickly!

Yes, stimulant laxatives are bad because they are very harsh, but they will clean you out in a short period of time. However, as you found,it's not very pleasant. Osmotic laxatives, like Miralax aren't bad though, but they do not clean you out in a short period of time like the stimulant ones do. Also, you can take them on a daily basis without ill effect. Well almost, abruptly stopping them wouldn't be such a good idea, but they can be easily phased out over a period of time. -Bob

Correctol was the source of my extreme IBS inmy early twenties. I would eat something and it would come out, mostly in tact sometimes in a half an hour! Scary stuff!
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
