I'm looking for a spaghetti sauce I can buy at any common grocery store. I read the list of brand name items we can use, but I did not recognize any names. I'm guessing brands like Prego and Ragu are out of the question? Are there maybe certain types (like mushroom or traditional) of Prego or Ragu we can eat? Suggestions? Comments? Thanks!!

The only time I can eat spaghetti sauce is in my dreams! I can't even have the noodles never mind the sauce!

Wow, Roland. You are reading my mind. I was about to post an extremely similar question!

I am stubborn and not ready to completely give up on cooked tomatoes.

Barilla bugs me. Used to love that stuff. Haven't tried anything else yet.

I can eat plain noodles, but unless I'm not feeling well, there's little joy in that.

I KNOW there's other stuff you can put on pasta besides tomato sauce or white sauce, but I'm drawing a total blank lately!

What about a recipe like this:
Tofu Mango Stir Fry With Pasta

Servings 4
Ingredients
1/2 lb. capellini pasta
1 tbsp. sesame oil
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/8 tsp. hot chile paste
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cups mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup firm tofu, diced
2 celery stalks, thinly sliced
2 cups red and green peppers,julienned (if you can tolerate)
2 cups cabbage, sliced (if you can tolerate)
1 1/2 cups firm ripe mango, diced
1 tbsp. lime juice
1/2 lb. bean sprouts
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 cup roasted, unsalted peanuts or cashews

Directions Cook pasta according to directions. Pre-heat wok or skillet over high heat. Add the oil, onion and spices, cooking until onions soften (2 to 3 minutes). Add mushrooms, tofu and celery. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Drizzle mango with lime juice and add along with cabbage and peppers. Simmer covered for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring twice. Add noodles, sprouts and soy sauce, toss. Add nuts before serving

I can do Ragu Light tomato and basil (no dairy). It's a little watery, but it's better than nothing. I throw in a bunch of mushrooms and some herbs.

I usually have no problem finding spaghetti sauces. You just need to read the ingredients and make sure there is no dairy, eggs, High Fructose Corn Syrup, etc.. Some people don't handle tomatoes very well .. so you may want to start out with a small portion of sauce on a larger portion of plain white pasta. See how that goes first, then increase the amount of sauce next time, if all goes well! Also .. try your nearest Health Foods Store .. they usually have TONS of safe sauces to choose from.

a) I use a few trader joes sauces that are a) low fat, b) no dairy, c) no HFCS, d) no MSG

b) I make a lot of simple sauces from tomato puree/crushed tomatoes/even tomato paste in a pinch... I like diced or whole tomatoes best but DH doesn't so I tend to put them through the blender for him... a handful of spices, some mushrooms or chicken and let it go for a bit... I can start when I put a pot of water on and have it done when the pasta is cooked if I do it right- a bit of water in the skillet and cook the chicken in that with the spices, then add the tomatoes and simmer....

c) I make a lot of sauces out of thickened broth (chicken/vegetable) and mushrooms, carrots, etc.. depending on what we are looking for.

cumin=pain
hot chili paste=pain
onion=gas
tofu=bloat/gas
peppers=gas/pain/bloat
cabbage=serious gas/bloat/pain
bean sprouts=same
nuts=pain

Put it all in one dish...= Death! Or wanting death over the effects of this sauce!

I'm jealous of anyone who can handle this one. I don't think I could handle it even if I didn't have IBS.
