I have terrible bloating sometimes daily. What is the best thing to take with no side effects?

A lot of people around here like fennel. You can also get gas-x over the counter. I do fine with both of these.

It used to be when I got bad cramps I took gasX but when I started this diet I stopped all OTC meds and only took something when I was absolutly deperate. If Gas X is safe I would like to start keeping it on hand again for my night time bloating.

It has never caused me C but it doesn't work all that well on bloating since it just breaks up large gas bubbles in the upper GI tract. It causes you to burp them out. I do take it on occassion though. Bloating is best treated with lots of fennel tea, lots of water, exercise, sticking with the diet, not eating too much too seldom but eating small amounts often and avoiding gas producing foods. Beano helps some people too. Also acacia really helps when you get used to it.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I second the fennel tea for gas and bloating- the more, the less bloated! I make mine strong. I buy the seeds at an organic health food store. Make sure you crush the seeds though to release their potenecy. Peppermint tea helps with intestinal spasms and tummy cramps. Like Minnie said, LOTS of water. Try yoga as well to relax and help release some intestinal air. Make a notebook of the foods you ate and if you had a reaction to them- bloat. then try to avoid those things that are triggers for you.
