I was dying for a tuna salad sandwich. I haven't had tuna or mayo in ages! The only way they make tuna salad at a deli is with mayo. I have avoided it for a year and a half now, b/c I am lactose intol. and I am scared now! I knew I shouldn't eat it, but I hate deli food and that's all there was that I liked so I got it. Do you think I'll be ok? Can any of you eat mayo without a problem? I don't think I can or should. I hope I am ok!!!

Sweetie, go to the largest grocery store you can find. Look at all the fat free mayos there. Read all the labels. See if you can get a dairy free one. If you can't see if you can get one where lactose, casein or whey are closer to the bottom of the list. The good news is lots of us tolerate mayo TOTALLY fine - so you can go ahead and eat as many tuna and mayo sandwiches you want. Go for it!!!!

I eat tuna sandwiches just about every other day. Mine are made in my offices cafeteria and they make them with mayo- (Mixed in with the tuna). I am LI also and don't have a problem.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't have any problems with it.

Hi Dana, I don't think there are any milk products in mayo. The
reason it is considered unsafe is because it's made with
whole eggs. Unless the tuna salad was loaded with mayo, I
doubt it will trigger an attack, especially if you're stable.

Well, it's also unsafe because it's basically oil and eggs - nothing else if it's the good stuff. I looked at the nutrition info for a sandwich chain I like (Potbelly's) and their tuna salad option is way high in fat compared to a turkey sandwich.

It probably depends on how sensitive you are to fat and how mayo'ed up the tuna was (and whether there was lots of bread and veggies to balance out the fat). My suggestion is to have a nice low-fat, high SF snack and dinner tonight.

I am very sensitive to whole eggs and kind of sensitive to fat. Thanks for your help and suggestions!

HanSolo,

Thanks, I have tried the dairy free ones, they are gross. But I have never tried the ones that don't contain casin or lactose, casein or whey that are closer to the bottom of the list. That is good news! I hope I am one of them! I love tuna and mayo! We'll see tomorrow morning. Thanks!
