Is anyone here able to eat any fast food? Like a grilled chicken (m)

or a salad with grilled chicken if they take a SFS first? I take my kids occasionally and have eaten the grilled chicken sandwiches. Sometimes I tolerate them and other times I don't. (but don't know if that was related to eating the fast food or not) Wondered if it was something I should just avoid or if others can sometimes eat the stuff w/o mayo and other things on the grilled chicken.

I work 2 jobs and am finding it very hard to have prepared meals around for lunch. What I have been doing is going to either Wendy's or Burger King and getting there grilled chicken sandwich and ordering it with just tomato. McDonalds uses a whole wheat bun for their grilled chicken so I don't go there.
I had an attack this morning but I'm sure that isn't what caused it.

I can tolerate grilled ok, and I often get the salads with no problem. But I ALWAYS make sure I have taken my SF before take out of any kind! I've paid dearly when I skipped. I just avoid as much of the fat as possible given my choices...ie. no fries, no cola, grilled if available, salad if available. There are so many choices most places now that it is usually not a problem!

I really like New York Burrito and, once in a great while, I go to Subway (not a sandwich fan).

Occasionally, I go to Burger King. I'm able to tolerate the Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich without lettuce or tomatoes. The chicken and bun are safe although they contain MSG, so be careful if you're MSG sensitive. You can see ingredient listings here: BK Ingredients I also prefer it without whatever sauce they're using; right now it's a Honey Mustard Spread, which contains egg yolk (ick!). At BK, you can also order bottled water. Now that I'm stable, I do enjoy the occasional small order of fries, but I definitely would't recommend it to anyone who's sensitive to fat, new at the IBS diet, or is trying to eat healthy.

After checking out Jack in the Box ingredients online, I'm disappointed to report that almost everything--from the chicken to the buns contains dairy. This would explain why, back in college, I would get severe attacks even though I thought I was making safe choices. Also during my college years, I used to frequent Panda Express and order their mushrooms w/ chicken w/ a large side of steamed rice--this was all I ate when the cafeteria didn't have any safer options. I don't recall ever having an attack from it. I haven't eaten at either place in years.

In general, I have problems with every other fast food place. It's only recently (and very rarely) that I've tried eating at BK and New York Burrito.

That's the only fast food I EVER eat... because I know those chicken sandwiches are supposed to be grilled, but I just don't trust them. You can still grill food with a ton of oil, and a lot of restaurants do, so why wouldn't a place like McD's or BK?

So I stick with Subway. I tolerate vegetables really well, so I really pile on the pickles, olives, tomatoes, lettuce, and I can be happy because I'm eating the same thing I would have eaten if I didn't have IBS. (Unlike McD's, where I'd be eating grilled chicken and sulking because I really wanted a Big Mac. LOL!)

Subway Turkey Sandwich - 5 grams of fat and no dairy in the bread.

Pick Up Stix - House Chicken add the veggies you can tolerate - eat with a lot of steamed rice. Usually one dinner gives me an additional three lunches (I just add more rice)

Taco Bell - Chicken taco "Fresco Style" - has no cheese.

Good luck,
Leigh

It makes me get D right quick! Restaurant grilled chicken is a last resort for me. With BBQ sauce they are pretty safe, watch for wheat buns though.

I can't eat a plain baked potato. I don't even eat them at home because I can't stand them NOT loaded up with butter and sour cream, hehe.

Still, it's a good thing to grab if you find yourself at one of those places and don't have much of a choice!

I can usually handle a fast food salad, but only if I just eat the lettuce part and skip the dressing. Fast food, I find, a huge problem--it's rather insulting to my gut! I avoid it at all costs. I'm usually fine with Thai fast food/soups/sushi and Asian. I can handle fast food soups, but only if I just eat the broth part. MSG goes through you pretty fast. The guts of the soup, though, I dump...

I eat Subway lots...and I can do Quiznos, Panera, Jimmy Johns, etc...sandwich places like that are easy because you can pick everything out.

I'm scared to death of McD, Burger King, etc....BUT, I do find with Taco Bell - if I get a soft taco with chicken and no cheese. Not that good...but if we're driving and there's nothing else it works out well.

McDonald's Oriental Chicken salad is totally safe for me. It's ultra low fat dressing is both amazing and less than 1 gram of fat (if I remember right). I would recommend you eat it with a large bun or a dose of SF as it doesn't have any itself.

But I'm safer with the 2 tbsp of sour cream than I am with a hamburger or God knows what else. At least it controls how much sour cream you eat.

Hi Alicia, The uniform is a reproduction of the standard
British army uniform of the period between 1868 and 1885.
Specifically,it's the uniform of the British infantry 24th
of foot regiment indicated by the green trim on the uniform.
There are some Canadian reenacting groups out west who wear
essential the same uniform except that their trim is yellow. It was convenient for Canadian militias of that
period to simply adopt the standard British uniform. The
Canadian Mounties also wore essentially the same uniform
back then too. These Canadian reenactors that I know of
do reenactments of the Whiskey Rebellion out in Alberta
and BC. I got interested in British Army reenacting after
seeing the movie "Zulu" which depicted the famous battle
at Rorke's Drift, which was also Michael Caine's first
movie. It was made in 1964. -Bob

Wow. You look great! It looked so much like a RCMP uniform that I had to ask, being the proud Canadian that I am. I knew it wasn't a mountie uniform, but I just couldn't place it. Do you enjoy reenacting? I love going to historic places for reenactments. When I was pregnant, I was in Minneapolis. We went to the local fort there and my baby enjoyed kicking me mightily as the guns went off.

Alicia, Thanks very much. Yes, I love reenacting. Around here
I just do American Civil War reenacting. I've never actually
done any British Army reenacting, principally because I've
never been to England, but I'd love to go someday. There are
three other Americans with British Army reenacting kits, but
they live in Atlanta,Georgia, and I've never gotten down
there either. Maybe one of these days I'll get out to
Alberta and reenact with these Canadians. I've seen pictures of where they reenact, and it looks really nice!
Thanks for asking. -Bob

Newbie here. I was recently on a road trip and got the grilled chicken sandwich. I asked for the regular bun rather than the wheat. The problem is, making them understand that you don't want everything on it, including the Mayo. It seems kind of hard to have it your way at McDonalds. I scraped everything off, and seemed to tolerate it well. It's got a "decent" flavor too.

Thanks so much for the heads up! I never realized Burger King's sandwiches contained MSG. That's a huge trigger for me.

I'm with Casey. I almost always go to Subway when I need to grab some fast food. I can honestly say I haven't been to BK or McDonalds in years. I used to love Wendy's chicken sandwiches, but I haven't been there in forever either. I just can't get past Subway's FF honey mustard dressing... it's so heavenly. Plus knowing I'm eating something entirely safe is such a great feeling!

I've also eaten at Arby's safely. Their market fresh turkey sandwich didn't bother me a bit!

Well hub and I think all re-encating is cool. He would love to do Roman re-enacting like in the UK! He talks about it everytime we watch a documentary. But personally I prefer Georgian to Regency times.

YOU ARE RIGHT 100% RIGHT!!
I would really like to know what the draw is for people to eat those stupid little white castle burgers. I lived in Ohio for many years and they were very popular there with poorer people cause they were cheap but even they said that they got terrible indigestion and heartburn from them.

The odd thing is that now we live in Washington, and people have them shipped out here to their houses and we have even seen them in the frozen food aisle of the grocers. People seem to go crazy for them.

They are the smallest square hamburgers that have 4 holes in them and are grilled with onions. I had one and threw it up, many years ago. I just dont understand why anyone would eat them, much less order them special or go nuts for them.

Hi Lummi, When I was a teenager,I used to think they tasted
real good. The draw was that they were open 24hrs. a day and
friends of mine and I frequently went there late at night. The
typical crowd there was also quite entertaining. When I was a
senior in high school I participated in a WC eating contest
and ate 27 of those little ratburgers in one sitting, but I
puked within an hour and was disqualified. I wasn't going
to win anyway, some huge guy ate 65 without puking. He
bragged(believe or not) that he was going to eat 100. I've
heard that the former Chicago Bears football player,William
Perry, alias "The Fridge" has eaten over 100 in one sitting

So long as I don't eat it everyday, I can handle a variety of fast food poultry and even fries. Maybe I'm weird that way, but I even tolerated it pretty well before my IBS even resembled stable.

I do very well with a 6-inch Subway turkey on Italian - but the little round buns bother me every time. For veggies on it, I get tomato, cucumbers, and a little green pepper. The grilled chicken works, too, but I prefer the turkey.

I can eat Popeye's fried chicken! Haven't tried KFC. I thought that stuff was nasty before IBS, but Popeye's is okay for me.

Let's see...I can also handle chicken strips some places. It varies. Culver's is a no-go, but I'm okay with one of our local places and Baker's Square. I can do chicken fajitas, too, but that's not exactly fast food.

I'm usually okay with a grilled chicken sandwich from almost anywhere.

As far as salads...I've only recently begun to experiment with lettuce again. I'm hoping for a day when I can dive into a good salad again, but I don't think I'm there yet.

I thought White Castle was extinct. Or should be. They were nasty then and I'm sure they are nasty now. Quarter burgers, see how many you could fit in your mouth. And spend hours in the bathroom.

Yeah. I'm able to tolerate them, I just try to stay away from the mayo. Try asking them to hold the mayo & ask for honey mustard sauce on the side, that's what I do.

Hi Knewada, Yeah, I had my worst case of D after that stupid
stunt, even with puking out half if them, well that's still
13.5 burgers though. Oh yeah, my friends back east tell me
they're still there, and I've seen one or two in Chicago.
There's no WC's west of Chicago though. What's kind of inter-
esting is the names people have for them in different areas.
On Long Island, we called them ratburgers. In Northern New
Jersey they called them sliders because they slide right
through you. -Bob

My family loved sliders growing up. When my brother moved out East, we would stop at the nearest WCt on the way to the airport to pick up a sack for his return trip stock up!

Those little burgers are/were great! (Although, now that I remember, we used to get tummy aches a lot afterwards...it was kind of funny to have 7 people figthing over 2 bathrooms).

They are all over the south suburbs of Chicago!

Beth, Oh wow, You know the White Castle experience too huh.
Oh, so did you grow up on the south side of Chicago? I thought
you once said something about growing up in Ohio. Of course,
there are White Castles there too. I remember they used to
list all the cities where there were WC's on the little boxes
the sliders came in. What was the local nickname for them
there?
So, you have four brothers and or sisters? Where in the
east did your brother move to? -Bob

Who ever started this thread have found one thing that we all seem to have in common. We can tell you the exact moment we ate the worst things ever made. No matter what you call them: sliders, ratburgers, or barfburgers; we all know that is the only way to describe what many of us go through sometimes many times daily.

Rock on for IBS!!!!!!

Yes I agree. If I'm careful and take my full spectrum pill (plant enzymes) I can eat some fast food, but I also can't have mayo on it. Too high in fat, that's my problem. What is a SFS?

on the day, the time, the orbit of the sun and everything else for me! I usually order grilled chicken whatever when we are out and I can't get to a Tim Hortons where I know my safe foods. Even grilling chicken at home tonight for supper was a bad move for me. But tomorrow I could be fine!!

We have Krystal here in the South, which makes the little square burgers also (I always liked them...ate quite a few of them when I was a teenager). Since I was a vegetarian for so long, I've just kind of lost my taste for fast food and don't see a real need to get back in the habit. Last time I went to Taco Bell (maybe 2 yrs. ago?) it was just nasty.

(I'm working a little seafood back into my diet now since I have had to give up some other things, so I can't say I'm "strictly" vegetarian anymore, just "mostly" vegetarian.)
