Okay, I just pigged out!!! Not with anything bad, with safe snacks, but I ate a lot. I'm just soooooooooooooooooo hungry!!! I've been trying this new IBS diet for about a week now, and this is my first time in 3 years that I've tried to control my IBS. I have been feeling great!! It's a miracle, that something actually WORKS!! But it's sooo hard to stay focused on it.
I've had IBS for 3 years and before that, I had dairy as much as I could. And I'm a really picky eater! There's not much I like. And then all the stuff I DO like, I can't have!!
So I'm having trouble staying focused and doing this right. I'm unemployed right now, and I sleep in, and when I wake up, I usually don't eat, b/c I'm not hungry. Most days, i just have 1 meal. Now this diet says to eat little snacks frequently. I'm not hungry that much. And when I am, nothing helps my cravings. I'm doing this diet for my IBS and b/c I also wanna lose some weight. Sometimes, I don't care if I have an attack. I'm so used to it! I really need help in getting into this new habit of eating this way. (The IBS way). It's really hard going to the diner and watching all my friends eat all this stuff, and I sit there with a plain bagel.

What's hard about this for me, is that I feel like I've given up everything and it's such a struggle. I haven't given up smoking (don't bother talking me out of it), but I have given up drinking and drugs, b/c I'm now in recovery and go to meetings every night. I've been clean for alittle over a year now. I used to smoke pot b/c I thought it made my stomach aches go away. I used to always get sick before class in the mornings, and sometimes I would get an attack, when I was on my way to class, driving (that is the WORST!!) So I would smoke some pot before class, and my stomach ache would subside, but then I'd be too high to even GO to class! LOL So that didn't work too well!

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions on how to start doing this diet the right way?

Sweetwater - I'm sorry you're having a rough time. A couple of small suggestions - read the section on this website called breaking the cycle of attacks. It will give you some suggestions as how to start. Also, check out the website the First Year of IBS (icon at top) for lots of starter points.
Secondly, I know how you feel about eating something even if you know it will cause an attack. Been there. Do that. The truth of the matter is, unfortunately, until you stabilize, you will have to give up a few things for now (and some permanently.)
Finally, try eating even if you aren't hungry. Start small. If you're not working, try some light exercise - this will help perk up your appetite, hopefully. If the exercise won't maybe a fresh air from a walk around the block will. Take care and post any questions you may have.
