I am having some issues with heartburn. My doctor wants me to start taking an omega 3 fish oil supplement 3 times a day(for something else), but it is enhanced with lemon oil for flavoring. Would this small amount of lemon oil be a problem for us GERD/ Heartburn/ Acid Reflux sufferers??
Thanks in advance!

I don't think so, but you won't know until you try. Hope it works out for you.

I'd agree with Barb...it's likely to be fine, but you just won't know till you try. Are you on a PPI for the GERDs?

No PPI just yet. I am in the early stages right now and trying to control it with diet, which has been working so far.

The fish oil supplement I take also has lemon oil in (I use Nordic Naturals), and whether or not I have problems with it really seems to depend both on what I've eaten and when I take it. I can't take it on an empty stomach, and it seems that I have less problems with it if I take one in the middle of a meal or a snack. When I do have a problem, it isn't really severe, just a lot of lemony indigestion. But in addition to heartburn problems, I also have problems with chronic nausea, and biliary dyskinesia (I have functional problems of the GI tract from beginning to end), so I'm not sure I'm the best example for you.
Good luck, JR

I have GERD too, but I don't remember if that dr. told me to take fish oil pills. I have had so many doctors tell me to take them. I can't stomach them. I don't think it's the lemon because I can tolerate that usually. I can't stand the aftertaste and burping from the pills.
They do sell coated ones that are supposed to cut down on the gas, but I don't know if those are ok in other ways.
Good luck. Emily

I would try taking them, and then maybe try Maalox with it. I was on a PPI but since I have no damage, my doc suggested i just use Maalox. It has an anti gas too, and you can have a fre of them if one doesn't work, and it really does work for me. I love it!~
