Just curious: Does anyone who lives in NYC have favorite IBS-safe restaurants? I love Monsoon, on 81st and Amsterdam, and the Garden Cafe in Inwood (211th & B'way) has a great turkey burger. Cheers!

Hangawi is in a very serene space on e32nd street. Its slightly americanized-korean food all vegetarian at least mostly vegan if not all. Not cheap but very nice for a special occasion. Also I love our local graffiti covered sushi restaurant Geido in prospect heights. I'll put down some more later. There's so many ny-ers on the list now - I"m curious to hear of some new restaurants... Dan

Ooh, if you like Hangawi, you'll love Franchia, on 34th and Park. It's their sister restaurant, and it's completely vegan. Try the soy cheesecake! There's been some discussion about this on the boards recently, and the consensus is that it's amazing.

candle 79!! (79th btw lex and 3rd.) i just went last night for the first time (i'd been to candle cafe before), and i was blown away. it's vegan, so aside from IF and friedness, it's almost totally safe. my (non-ibs, non-vegetarian) mom and stepfather loved it, too, incredibly delicious, and probably the most patient good-at-explaining waitstaff ever. (candle cafe on 75th st is the same people, just slightly less fancy, i think.)

Yeah, thats a good one - I ate there once I think at the cafe. Oh a good one for cheap lunch Dean and Deluca has cheap and fresh veggie sushi. I eat there when I'm at my feldenkrais training on the upper east side, to the point that everyone in my class makes fun of me. Dan

kate's joint - corner of avenue b and 4th st. entirely vegetarian, and very vegan-friendly. a spiffed-up, dimly lit diner feel, with a casual, mostly young, east-villagey crowd. huge variety of food, from imitating meat to not, from dijon tofu to the mckate (a vegan or vegetarian big mac). really delicious, and non-dairy options for just about everything. some things are fried, and some have lots of IF, but other than that it's a great place. two thumbs up.
