Do any of you in the UK make your own applesauce? its costing me a small fortune in jars of baby food!!! just wondered what variety of apple do you use? I tried it with Bramleys the other day but was really sharp

I used to use bramleys, the big cooking variety - do you add any sugar to it? I always find that sorts out the tartness!!

The stuff in jars almost always contains sugar so just add it to your own if you want! Although Bramley apples are cooking apples, there is no reason why you couldn't use another type too!

I'll def keep some jars in the house for emergencys & also days out etc its not far off Bramley apple season so I think I might cook a job lot of them while they are at their peak & freeze them in batches
