Tomorrow I will be having a test where I'll need to have a blue dye injected into my system to look at my kidneys. I did a blood test to make sure that I'm not allergic to the dye, but I was wondering if it would affect my IBS? Does anyone know? I'm really nervous about it and hope I don't suffer any consequences. PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks you,

Carol

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that if the dye is going into your bloodstream it's less likely to affect your IBS. I would plan on being out of action for the rest of the day, though, just in case you do flare up. Can you check with your doctor to see if there are any GI side-effects from the dye?

I had a kidney test done three months ago. The dye didn't affect my IBS at all.

The prep sucked, but preps always do.

Thanks for all for your help. I did consult with the office doing the test and they told me that it is in fact some sort of liquid that I would be drinking. I told them I had IBS and they said they've had many patients that have IBS that had this test and it was OK, except it gave them D. I am C so I hope that I won't get D from the stuff. Thanks again for your help!!

How nice that your doctor's office was so responsive. Unless you're worried about rebound, maybe you could pick up some Imodium to have with you for the test and at home afterward - just in case.

Take care. I hope the tests show all is well.
