Yoghurt/Lactose Intolerence info....

I haven't done a search on this, but I thought you would like to know (if you didn't already) that because live yoghurt culture contains enzymes that break down lactose, some individuals who are otherwise lactose intolerant find that they can enjoy yoghurt without ill effects! I also heard that cheese is very low in lactose too, but as it is usually quite fatty, most IBSers have trouble with it!

I'm fine with dairy, never liked milk but am fine with yoghurt and cheese (in small amounts!)...just thought I'd pass on my nibblets of knowledge!!

I know some people on the Boards can tolerate some dairy, but I just wanted to make things clear for Newbies Who May Be Confused (NWMBC). Dairy just kills me and I really miss yogurt - yogurt with Grape-Nuts used to be my standard breakfast pre-Heather - no wonder my tummy was always in an uproar.

Have you tried soy yogurt? IMHO, Silk soy yogurt is really yummy with no beany flavor that I can detect...

Actually I did and it tastes "dusty" to me. It may be all in my head, but there you are. It's become irrelevant anyhow since my thyroid is acting up and I'm avoiding soy as much as possible. (Which translates to: I'll say to heck with my thyroid in order to eat soy ice cream occasionally, but not in order to eat soy yogurt. ) Thanks for the thought, though.

The soya yoghurt we have over here is full of sugar, which is a shame, because I used to love it!! Just upsets my candida!!!

Silk doesn't quite do it for me, but I really like Wildwood soy yogurt. The plain really tastes like real plain yogurt, and the fruity ones are good too. The Silk brand fruity ones are passable, but what I really love most is plain yogurt, and the Silk plain just isn't quite right. Wildwood is quite close (though still not perfect, IMO).

to a whole container? I am so bloated and gassy that all soy products scare me. Is it better to just avoid soy if I am already gassy and bloated?
I miss yogurt.

My rule of thumb has been if it feels good, do it, and if it hurts, stop. You know your body. If soy is making you bloated and gassy, cut it out. I switched from soy milk to rice milk in my cereal because soy first thing in the a.m. was making me gassy all day. I can eat a small container of soy yogurt after a meal mid-day. I think the most important thing for you right now is to work out the C. Once that is resolved, the bloating and gas will have to die down. For now, I'd continue to avoid soy if it's making you gassy, and I'd make a real effort to get more IF into you. I know it's scary but if you are majorly C, all the SF sweet potatoes and all the SFS in the world won't help. You need to incorporate some more IF. I haven't read all of your posts but I generally try to keep up with your situation, and that's my uneducated opinion. Hope it helps.
