I just started taking Digestive Advantage about a week ago and I absolutely love it so far! I have been so C for years and nothing has ever really helped me not even prescribed Miralax and things like that. I have been eating whatever I want in reason and I have been using the bathroom like 3 times a day, which I cant even tell you the last time I have done that!!:) I hope it keeps working, but if it just works for a little while it is totally worth it to me!

That's great! I just started on it this week. The first couple of days were okay, but I didn't go at all yesterday. I am hoping today is okay.

I hope it works for you because it has worked wonders for me. There has not been a day that I have not gone to the bathroom, and it is so awesome because I was used to just going MAYBE once a week if that. This is definitely something I can get used to! The side effects say that you can have gas and bloating at first...but man who with C doesn't always have that!!lol

Glad you have had some luck with something. What time of day do you take this and do you take it on an empty tummy?

It really doesnt say that you have to take it at the same time everyday and it also says that some people may need two a day. I have just been taking one pill a day in the afternoon and not particularly on an empty stomach. It usually works before the next morning and I have been to the bathroom EVERY day since I have started to take it!!:) You should really give it a try.

Have you changed anything else? Maybe your diet or something? Or has the only change been taking Digestive Advantage?

So you take a SFS with it? Are you eating IF and whole wheat?

Haa the bloat and gas gone away yet?

I can't tolerate any SFS and nothing has worked for me, including a probiotic and digestive enzymes.

I am at my wits end with all this pain and horrid C!

I have not changed my diet at all. I pretty much eat whatever I want. I am still taking Miralax every once in a while but I am thinking about just getting off of it for a while to see if this Digestive Advan. will just do the trick by itself. I used to take Zelnorm too, but I have completely gotten off of that too.
All I do is just chew up one DA and I go to the bathroom like a normal person. Oh yea, I still have some gas but it's not as bad as it used to be. I def dont feel as bloated and I think that is due to just being able to go to the bathroom everyday and getting rid of the pressure. I would definitely recommend just trying it for a week or two and see if it works. This is the absolute one thing I have found to work without making me cramp up and have D like Zelnorm and laxatives seemed to do to me. Hope it works for you! Let me know!

Cyndy, Yeah, I know how you feel, I'm there too. Say SCgirl,
did the DA atart working the day you first took it? Also,
do the BM's hit you like a ton of bricks, or do you have
plenty of time to hit the bathroom? -Bob

that's wonderful! i've seen it at the drug store (the same people make my once-a-day lactose intolerance pills, bless their hearts), and wondered about it, but i hadn't heard anything about it ever, and was loathe to shell out another ten bucks for something that might or might not work. right before i got diagnosed, the bottom of my bag was a wasteland of immodium, pepto, gas-ex, everything, but of course i'd be out and get an attack and not have anything on me, and rush to the drug store again.

the digestive advantage - is it just for C, or D, too?

I hope you continue to see the wonderful results with it! I'm a C, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not...but I took it for about 2 months. The first week I was on it, I was more gassy & bloated, then it started working GREAT! I was having 'normal' bms pretty much every day. Then after about 6 weeks or so, it just stopped working. I don't know why. I'm about to try a new probiotic & see if it helps.

Unfortunately many people on the boards have tried this without success. Or, it works for a month and then nothing.

If you want to try it, you can get it OTC at any drug store, by the laxatives and SFS products.

I hope it works for you! It is worth a shot I guess. I might even be tempted to try it again. First time it did nothing for me though. I'm glad SC has had success with it, and I hope it continues for her.

I've been taking it a while. At first it was working real well and I don't know if my body just got used to it or what but after a while it seemed to have stopped. On the box it states it's good for both "C" and "D" and in the first few days you may experience gas/bloating which is normal. Also, if you're menstruating or sick, they suggest you increase the dosage during that time. Heidi

Hi, to answer your question. It did seem to work the first couple of days I started to take which I was very surprised because on the package it said it may take like 10! I guess it just hit the spot with me. It does not give me "urgency" to have to use the bathroom. I just simply deel the need and I do! I THINK like a normal person might go to the bathroom..but who knows because I have never been normal when it comes to that!lol

Yea, I wouldnt yet call it a "miracle drug" either, even though since I feel so much better I am tempted to. I wish that this worked for everyone the way it has worked for me. Maybe some more people will find success I hope!
I hate that some people say it has quit working for them I hate when that happens. That is what happened to me when I was on Zelnorm. It worked at first, it did cramp me up really bad, but at least I would go to the bathroom. Now it doesnt even phase me if I took it twice a day! Weird huh?! But I hope this DA keeps on working..I am on Day 20 or so I think..something like that!

Doesn't the mannitol and aspartime in the DA bother you? They are artificial sweetners that are known to play havoc with IBS tummies.

I want to try this, but I'm scared now that I know it contains these ingredients. But you have had such success with it. I hope it doesn't stop helping you...I hate when something works and you get your hopes up and then the bad times come back.

I've only been on it a little over a week, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps working. It is so nice to eat and not feel so bloated and crampy afterwards.

I am not sure about all that stuff that is in it. I have said on these message boards before..I have tried EVERY diet and every medicine and nothing has worked so I am not so concerned anymore about "trigger foods" and things like that because I have not found "certain" things that seem to bother me. For right now I am eating healthy but eating whatever I want and taking DA and it is working just fine for now! I hope it keeps working!!!...I will give you an update if it stops!

Are you more hungry since you've been taking DA? I have been like a bottomless pit all week. I don't know if my food is moving through faster or what.

I have definitely felt different but in a good way. I think you are right food is moving at a quicker more normal rate now and I am wanting to eat more. Before when I was so C for weeks I was so bloated and just felt like I was filled to the brim so I hardly ever felt "hungry." I think just getting used to it will take a while but I think I will be able to if it keeps working. So is it working well for you still??

Yes, still working. We'll see what happens later. I ate a few bites of chili today. It was sooo good and so hard to stop eating. Hamburger is my big trigger food.

For those of you who responded to this thread a couple of months ago, are you still taking DA and is it still working?

If it's still working, what types of food you able to eat that you couldn't before? Veggies? Dairy? Beef?

I've had my free sample on my counter for a couple months now and am once again thinking of taking it, especially now that I'm a lot more stable (but I'm still waiting until after next Wednesday because I really don't have time for my body to mess with me or to have gas until Wednesday at about 5PM!)

Thanks!

I started taking DA for IBS and DA for Gas Prevention during my eights month of pregnancy. I'm IBS-C. The moment (almost literally) that I gave birth of my son, my IBS symptoms have cleared up, for lack of a better term. My son is now 12 weeks old. I also take GNC's Papaya Enzymes. That combination has worked for me for four months and I can eat anything. So I don't know if it was the DA/Papaya or the hormonal changes in pregnancy/birth that has helped me.

ETA: My symptoms were constipation, abdominal pain and severe bloating.

Did they work for you during the pregnancy?

Are you using the ones with artificial sweetener?

My guess would be the hormones. Did you have IBS before you were pregnant? You are so lucky Jules! My dream is to be able to eat whatever I want again!

Hi There, I am Jen.
I am just new to IBS-C (lucky me) ughh. I have had it going on about 4 months, serious so far. I was put on Zelnorm and have been on it about 1 month. I noticed when I had an attack, it seemed to stop working. I have been religious with acacia fiber too, but I feel Zelnorm may stop working all together. How long were you on it until it stopped. Also, I want to get my hand on Digestive Advantage. Thanks

I had IBS-C for about three years prior to becoming pregnant. Pregnancy made my IBS horrible!! I'm not sure what's in my DA artificial sweetener-wise, I just buy what's on the shelves...

Oh, and I meant to say that I had started taking DA starting my eighth month of pregnancy. I wish I had found it sooner!

Both bad for IBS tummies. This company is now promoting a product for arthritis, Psoriasis, Toenail & Foot Treatment, Toenail Fungus Treatment, Crohn's and Colitis, gas, and lactose intolernce.

It just makes me leery that one company claims they can treat so many different medical conditions.

I'm just if the ones who feel better on DA really are feeling better for another reason, and assuming it's the D.A.

It just doesn't make sense that a company who puts out multiple products which contain artificial sweeteners, which are known IBS triggers, can do so much for IBS when the top researchers haven't even been able to make a drug or a product that helps.

At any rate, I'm glad you have found freedom from this painful, life altering condtion. I would take anything if I would feel better. Take care and keep us updated on your success.

I went in to see my GI doctor after giving birth. He said that he either misdiagnosed me or that there's something about IBS and pregnancy that he is not aware of. He's been in practice for 30+ years. He also gave me the entire GI work up to rule out everything but IBS. I have NO idea if it's the DA, the GNC Papaya Enzymes, or having a baby. But I'm not complaining. Another previously pregnant board member told me that her IBS disappeared for six months after giving birth, then came back. So I'm a little worried. But I'm eating really healthy now (I'm doing the Abs Diet - not IBS friendly at all) and am trying to get back into pre-prego shape. I'm enjoying this while I can for as long as I can.
