Do people have trouble with peanut butter or is it generally safe for IBS?
When I am unsure of a food, I make sure I only eat it perhaps once every few days: Moderation in All Things. However, I am addicted to toasted sour dough rolls (soluble fiber that I use as a snack and beginning of each meal - very yummy). I also enjoy rice cakes with a very subtle cinnamin aftertaste.

PB(specifically JIF) is my VERY favorite food, but sadly, does not agree with me...:(

Just kidding... it's another thing that some people can tolerate (in small amounts, mind you) and others can't. I find I can eat about a teaspoon of it - no more! - once or twice a week. Any more than that and it just kills my guts.

I can handle about 1/2 a tablespoon every now and then on a really good day, but there is usually a little bit of gas associated.

I find that I tolerate a few tablespoons of low-fat Skippy every day. My standard lunch is PB&J.

I eat reduced fat - as long as I don't eat it every day - and as long as I keep the portion size down. I don't actually measure... but I don't make the covering thick on the bread -- I just cover the bread. Then I make sure the rest of the meal is very low in fat.
I think some people just have problems with peanuts in general. If you have soluble fiber and watch the total fat -- you should be okay. Remember that it isn't just the fat in the peanut butter -- it's the whole meal.

I eat Peter Pan creamy PB at least twice a week. I toast a waffle and then put some spray butter and just a little PB on it. The PB melts and it tastes great. Fortunately PB agrees with me and is one of my safe foods so I always have it around when I don't know what else to eat.
You might try some on your toasted sourdough roll.....but just a little at first.

I can do a thin layer of Peter Pan creamy with honey and some sort of pureed fruit on a bagel. This is lunch for me most of the week, but I usually eat some sort of SF an hour-ish before (unsweetened applesauce, or lately, a peach gingerbread muffin).

I eat peanut butter (and almond butter and cashew butter) a lot, but not huge amounts at a sitting. I completely avoid the supermarket brands which have HFCS and other icky things and get the stuff that's just nuts and salt.

Thin layer of creamy PB on a thick slice of french bread = heaven.
Big spoonful of creamy PB straight into my mouth = apocalypse.
