Hi All, I am new here...don't even know if I have IBS...but have had Diarrhea for the past 7-8 weeks. I haven't had a fever or a lot of pain..specialist just said to try taking Imodium daily. It isn't working. I called back today to go in tomorrow. I feel like they don't care what I am going through and I am crying as I type this. I am so drained, losing weight and getting so depressed because I don't feel well. It is like I just want someone to hold my hand and tell me that it is going to be okay and they understand what I am going through. I am going to push for a Colonoscopy tomorrow. I need to know what is wrong. My husband has been supportive but doesn't truly understand how draining physically and emotionally this is on me. I keep hoping tomorrow will be better and it isn't. I start the whole thing over again..day after day. I have a 3 and 4 year old and barely have the energy to care for them. I printed out the IBS diet and am trying to follow it...even if it isn't what I have...I thought it might help to eat some foods that will digest easily. Anyway, thanks for listening. Sorry to be such a downer. I just don't have anyone really to share how much this is upsetting me.

Get a new doctor asap! That is no way to treat anyone with your symptoms! Jeez - you could have anything for all he knows.

SF foods will help, as will cutting out IBS triggers...and Immodium is good, BUT YOU MUST GET CHECKED OUT PROPERLY.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I completely understand. I started with D last October, three days after my wedding. I went to the DR after about a month( I really don't trust Drs) and he was no help. I basically had to research the web to figure out what was wrong and change DRs and push for some tests. I am finally seeing a GI next week for the first time. What got me stable finally was this website and the diet. I ate so much rice and french bread at first, but it really helped. It took a couple of days, but I finally started firming up and another few weeks to be more regular. I really believe you have to be pretty strict at first and follow the break the cycle diet to see good results. About a month ago, I started on Lexapro( though just changed to Celexa last week due to cost) after getting so depressed over all of this and the anxiety it caused. I am not a huge fan of drugs at all, but I can't tell you the difference it has made in my life. The anxiety is way undercontrol. For the first time since October, I can leave the house in the morning( mornings are way hard for me) without a pad on in fear I will have an accident. If I can help at all, please feel free to email me. I would be more than happy to pass on whast has helped me and what I have learned. I am the mom of a 21, 16, 15, and 7 year old as well as step mom to 7 and 9 year olds, only the two oldest are girls, boy do I feel out numbered! Anyway, It is very hard to deal with this and try to take care of everyone in the house and not have anyone really understand what it is like. I'm here if you need someone to talk to. Alyson

YOU POOR THING!!! First of all, I second the "get a new doctor" order because you need proper testing and treatment and, more importantly, validation for your emotional distress too! I similarly had a rough exp with my first doctor, as I am sure the majority of people on these boards have as well, and I immediately sought out two new opinions!

What you are going through is so draining, emotionally and physically eesp when it happens on a chronic basis. I would suggest adopting the BRAT diet and drinking lots of peppermint tea and also fennel tea, too! They are very soothing on the belly.

I hope you feel better soon, and get validation for what you are going through. It is very difficult.

Take care,
Kristen

I may be overreacting, but if I had diarrhea for that long, I'd go to the ER, or at least a new doc, even a walk-in clinic if I had to. You don't want to end up dehydrated, that can be very dangerous. Telling you to just take immodium seems kind of irresponsible. I'm sorry you're going through this---I hope you feel better soon, and if your current doctor doesn't help, go to someone else!

It sounds like you have symptoms of Crohn's disease. Ask to have x-rays done of the small intestine. (forgot what it's called) or even a CT scan of that area. The colonoscopy may or may not show something. Push for the other x-rays. And I agree...get to a new doctor or go to the ER.
Are you fatigued? Is there pain when passing stools? Blood?

Hi - I am so sorry you are feeling bad. I was on the boards just now because I have been sick for the past hour and needed some support! You will definetly feel better visiting these boards and talking to people who know what you are going through!

Yes, you do need a new doctor - that is for sure. And I would definetly stick to the safe foods (the what to eat when you can't eat anything stuff) and slowly add in the IF. And try the peppermint or fennel tea. They have been working wonders for me.

Hope you are better soon!

Thank you all so much for your support. I have had a rough day emotionally with this...Plus, my normally supportive husband told me today that I really need to just deal with it...it is Diarrhea not Cancer. It hurt my feelings so much. He apologized after...he thinks that I am looking at the glass half empty....Maybe I am...but, I am so drained from all this. I did end up in ER last week with two bags of fluid. I just have to know what it wrong. I honestly do not think it is IBS-D. I will post tomorrow after my drs appointment. I am going to be firm with getting to the bottom of this...I can't keep doing this every morning and crying, etc....I have a family to care for...God Bless all of you!
