Hello,

I was just diagnosed with IBS a few weeks ago. I have since read Heather's entire book and made almost everything in it (and have also been reading a lot on this site)!I am feeling much better and can not believe the difference.

My question is: are the fat free ballpark hotdogs (made with beef, pork and turkey) safe? I thought I had read something about these on the site but when I did a search I couldn't find it. I know beef and pork are triggers and I have omitted them from my diet but I'm not sure if only the fat would be a trigger or if is something else also.

Thanks everyone for make this the best 3 weeks I've had in years!

Because the beef and pork are triggers, the hotdogs are unsafe. Any red meat is considered a trigger.

Grab some turkey or chicken dogs... they might be smaller... but they are still yummy...and safe for most of us.

Hi and welcome to the boards!

It's because red meat protein is longer (or different shape or something....) than white meat, so it's harder to digest. That's why turkey dogs are ok but no-fat beef dogs aren't.

Glad you're feeling better with the diet!

Thanks everyone- I'm willing to cut out anything I need to to feel better! Anyone know a good brand of turkey dogs?

Ballpark Fat Free Turkey Hotdogs!!

They are amazing...honestly some of the very best hotdogs I have ever had. I eat them all the time now, because it's about my safest form of protein.

Enjoy!

I went looking for them based on your recommendation in the Camping Trip thread (thank you so much) and found them at Pathmark Supermarket. The label on the ones I got says: Ball Park Bun Size Smoked White Turkey Franks; 100% Fat Free Made with White Turkey Meat.

I think it's the smoked turkey that makes them taste so much like "real" hot dogs. If you didn't tell people they were "fake" I don't think they'd ever guess.

In case you're avoiding soy: They do contain "less than two percent" of something called "soy protein concentrate".

Hi! I just found this board, I've been dealing with severe IBS with D since I was little, but never this bad. I just read the list of foods to stay away from, and everything I ate yesterday was on that darn list. I've been on the toilet 4 times since 7 am. I love hot dogs and so does my husband, I guess I will start buying the Turkey and Chicken ones with no fat from now on. Thanks for the advice on the hotdogs!
