I just wondered if any C'ers found an antidepressant that actually worked for them....and didn't make them more C. I just wondered what are the side effects?

I take prozac and it hasn't effected my constipation anymore. It actually lists one of the side effects to be diareha ( i know I spelled that wrong!), but the only one I get from it is I sleep a good 7-8 hours at night, but I want that!

I was hoping you would say Prozac helped your constipation, as I read it can cause diarrhea too. Oh rats. Anyone know of an Antideppresant that causes Constipated people to have better bowel movements?

I know some Cers that have had some luck with Lexapro, Zoloft and Effexor.

I take Zoloft- the side effects in the beginning that I experienced were flushing, and drowsiness.
They went away after about a month.
I don't feel it made me more C by any means. It diesn't make me have D either.
It helped me tremendously when it came to emotions etc.. I was very depressed from dealing with IBS that wasn't getting better.
But things are better now. NOT PERFECT- but better than before.
I was in a very bad place emotionally/mentally.

Hope this helped.

I take Paxil. I know a lot of people have had problems with it, but so far for me, the results have been positive. The only side effect I've found is that it makes me tired sometimes, which for me is actually a good thing since I had anxiety problems that gave me insomnia.

It has helped my IBS-C because my stress levels have been down and my stomach isn't in knots as it used to be.

I hope this helps.
