Hi All!
Some of you may remember me I have been on and off the boards for years.
Anyway for a couple of years I have been told that I may have IBS but never was told for sure. I have never really had much pain and that was why I thought maybe I didn't but the diet did make me feel better.
Today I went to a new doctor because I have been having pain in my lower abdomen for about a week. He pressed around which really hurt. He told me that it is probably IBS he wants me to eat more fiber, fruits and vegitables. Then he is going to see me in 3 weeks. But tonight the pain in my stomach is really bad, it feels like a pulled muscle when I cough or move it is worse. I have a meeting in 1 hour and I need this pain to stop! Any suggestions?
Also I have read both of Heather's book but I don't have them now because a friend of mine that I no longer have contact with stole them. My husband told me that we do not have the money to get new ones so I am going to have to wing the diet I guess.
Any help would be great! Sarah

Hi, I'm not sure what to suggest about the pain. Have you tried a hot pack? Pepermint/Fenel tea?
But you're in luck with the diet! Most, if not all, of the info in the books are on this website. Is Heather great, or what? Just go to the 'IBS Diet and Recipes' link at the top left of the page.
Good luck, --Myra

Myra,
I have tried the hot pack. I can't drink peppermint tea due to GERD and I can't find fennel tea in my area so those are out. I am just worried about this pain I don't usally have pain.

Do you have any Tylenol (or better still Tylenol Plus)? That should help.
Chamomile tea is great for those of us with GERDs and is pretty widely available. Just make sure to brew it strong.
You are going to ignore your doctor's diet recommendations, yeah?

I do have Tylenol. I do plan on fallowing my doctors diet advice it just that it doesn't sound right to me. Before my friend stole my books I did read them and the high fiber diet he is suggesting sound like more insolubale fiber.
I can't get to the grocery store untill Thursday to get some new foods so for now I am just eating rice crispys and trying to take it easy.
I also have Panic Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder and I am sure that doesn't help the IBS.
