We have been using the clear, flavorless Citrucel, but my son hates it no matter what it's mixed with. The texture is what gets to him. Would Acacia be a more tolerable choice for him? Any other recommendations for an SFS?
Also, I'm wondering if an SFS is really necessary for him. He's 10, and basically has pain with no C or D. His GI says he has IBS/functional dyspepsia, which are basically the same problem but at different ends of a spectrum. He has greatly improved in the last couple of weeks, but we made so many changes at once (diet, meds, SFS, peppermint caps) that it's hard to know which things were helping.

Can he take pills? I got so sick of mixing stuff I take metamucil pills and I know others swear by other types of pills. Does Acacia come in pill form, anyone know?

It doesn't come in pill form yet, but Heather's working on it.

I'm sure he'd be fine with acacia. It virtually disappears in whatever you mix it in - no flavor, no texture. You can stir it in cereal, drinks, smoothies, yogurt, bake it in breads/muffins, soups, sloppy joes, etc. If you didn't tell him it was in there, he'd never know.
