Me again talking about constipation. Here's the story - I'm doing the diet, started very safe and am now working in some fruits and vegetables as allowed (no peels, cook well, etc). I am feeling much better after I eat because of the diet. I am also taking one round of the zel-norm per the Dr's instructions just to get me over this inital bad spell. It is for IBS-C. And I have finally settled on Citrucel as a SF supplement that I can handle, and am taking that too. AND I am on my treadmill at least once a day, sometimes twice, plus drinking water all day long. So in general I feel MUCH MUCH better - I mean, there is no comparison, no attacks and I can FUNCTION!! But it is about time I need to go to the BATHROOM now... and I am not doing anything, still. In the "old days" I'd be loading up on the bran flakes or taking senna or something to just get me moving, but I sure don't want to screw things up now. How long do I let this go on before I go to the bathroom??? It's feeling pretty yuck in there.

Thanks!

Michelle

It took me about 2 weeks after starting the diet, the exercise, the water drinking, and doing all the right things, for my bowels to work consistantly. And for the last 4 weeks, once every night. Which is soooooo much better than D for a week and then C for 2 weeks, and so on..

When I first started the diet, I felt better immediately, like you, but it took me a good month before things were working like they should. If I get off track for a bit or sick, I find that I need 3 weeks to a month for things to get back to normal.
I've also found that the more I worry about it, the longer it takes for everything to move. Knowing that doesn't help me much because I feel so icky that I can't help thinking about it, but I try really hard to not let it bother me.

I appreciate the feedback, but are you saying that you go a month without going to the bathroom? I cannot do that!! That is not healthy, is it?

Hi - I have the same question, but opposite problem - IBS-D. How many BM's a day does the average non-IBS person have? I have been on this diet for 1 month. I have been taking 4 citrucel a day. I have 1 BM in the evening. After living with 6-8 explosive d's a day (not every day thank goodness), 1 doesn't seem right!

I didn't mean to imply that I didn't go for a month! No, the month consists of maybe going once a week and when I do go, it's very difficult. Definately not healthy or fun!

I think once a day sounds pretty close to heaven if you ask me!
