My gastroenterologist put me on this for 4 months. Its a non steroidal anti inflammatory for the colon. I can tell I'm still having the bloating and bowel fullness but the pain is significantly decreased (at least so far, I've only been on it a week).

Because if so, then you have no inflammation and you are just putting your GI tract at risk with a drug that has GI side effects.

I have all the signs and symptoms but can't get a firm diagnosis from my GI doc. I know the diet here has helped some, as has the peppermint tea and Heather's peppermint pills. I swore it was my gall bladder for months but lots of tests including a colonscopy ruled that out. I went from once in a great while attacks (maybe 2 a year)starting in 2000 to bi-weekly attacks in February 2005. Feels like someones using a fish hook on my guts followed by bloating, constipation for about 2 days then about 2 days of diarrhea, then a week or so of okay time (that was become less and less also). I decided to start the diet last week when I found this site and last night had all the bloating/Constipation I usually get without the gut searing pains (upper right quad of my abdoman for me). Maybe its the peppermint if you don't think the Colazal could be helping.

I take this medication for my crohn's disease. I don't think it supposed to be used for IBS. Are you sure your GI is thinking you have IBS, or maybe is he looking at IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease)?
