Can anyone give me advice on how to convince my husband not to put so many spices on foods and to not eat such spicy stuff? Whenever we go to restaurants, he is always in the bathroom as soon as we get home. He know's it's the spicy stuff but he won't stop! The other night we had friends over and we had chinese. I had chicken fried rice,(I feel a little bad after I eat it, but if I have more rice than chicken i'm usually ok) but whatever he had made him be in the bathroom for about 45 minutes. I was in the living room entertaining our friends until he came out. It was really akward.

Anybody have this problem?

...but men can be so pigheaded sometimes. (I say that with the greatest affection, honest!) My bf insists on eating... well, stuff that lands him in the bathroom 7-8 times a day... even though he's seen me have success with changing my diet and eliminating certain things. He says it doesn't bother him, so what can I do? *shrug*

So.. no advice, just letting you know you're not alone.

Hmmm, men are stubborn sods. Could you get mad at him for doing that when you had guests (and so leaving you to entertain while he disappears)?

At least he came back. Si's favourite trick when we've got guests (usually just family thankfully) is to sneak off and go to bed for a nap! Darn embarrassing...but at least if the guests are his parents his Mum will go and ball him out!

Oh and welcome back rosie! Long time no see.

My advise would be to talk to your husband and let him know that you understand that he likes spicy foods and as an adult he gets to make his own food choices, but since it affects his stomach could you both agree that he won't eat spicy foods when you have company or when you have after-dinner plans. That also means not getting on his case other times he eats spicy foods. I would try letting him know that you enjoy spending time with him and this takes away from that and to the extent he actually has control over eating foods that upset his stomach (unlike many of us on the boards who sometimes get sick despite following the diet) you'd like him to make better choices so you can really enjoy your time out together. Hope this helps.

While it isn't the best solution you could try what happened to my fiance. He ate the most horrible stuff in my opinion-the smell of the spices gave me chest pains let alone getting a kiss from him caused my cheek or lips to tingle. I could only imagine what it was doing to his system. He would spend the next few days visiting the bathroom numerous times.

I went out of town for the weekend and left him and our dog, Chloe, home together. He decided to have his super spicy burritos and shared with Chloe. Not only was he miserable but he had a sick dog to take care of and clean up after. Not like the creamed colored carpet didn't tell me there was a problem over the weekend.

Ever since then he has used some thought before eating super spicy things. And Chloe definitely doesn't get any more either. Cruel but he learned a lesson.
