My 10-year-old son has been sick for six weeks and has been diagnosed with IBS, although I'm a bit skeptical of the diagnosis because he has no C or D, just constant pain (he's had the whole shebang of tests which turned up nothing). His worst pain is in the night; it wakes him up around 1 or 2 AM and he's unable to go back to sleep. We've tried Benadryl, melatonin, a homeopathic insomnia formula, and Percocet. He is currently on Bentyl, peppermint caps, SFS, and Prevacid.

Any suggestions for nighttime pain?

Maybe a heating pad, some peppermint tea, or if it is gas causing pain maybe some Gas-X or something like that. This is what I do when I get bad tummy pains from gas.

Does he have heartburn? Isn't that what Prevacid is for? If so, it is possible that the peppermint caps son't suit him. They are supposed to be okay for people with heartburn/GERDs but I had issues.

I'd try a heat pad and a mixture of chamomile and fennel tea - put honey in it if he's not fond of the taste.
