I'm an IBS C and pain. I take Miralax daily for the C. When Zelnorm came out a couple of years ago, my dr switched me to it. I did have some serious D for a couple of days and it did seem to help a bit with the pain but it seemed to completely stop working after just a couple of weeks, so I went back on the Miralax. Now, I take miralax everyday but have some Zelnrom on hand for bad spells. If I get a really bad pain spell, I'll switch to the Zelnrom for a couple of days than back to the miralax.

I've heard a lot of people say they also "build up a tolerance" to the Zelnorm but than I've heard of a couple of people who have taken it long term and seem to do fine! I think its worth trying for a little while and see how you do! The D should go away in a few days, if not, than I would call the dr! Remember to drink extra fluid when you are D so as not to get dehydrated!

And yes, if your post gets "lost" in the shuffle and they do sometimes, feel free to bump it!

I so know what you mean about the baby kicks!! I was seriously considering a PG test because I have felt that too recently...and had a very wimpy last AF. TOOO STRANGE!

LOL< I got pregnant with my daughter in the middle of my last teaching practicum, it'd be odd to get PG the same time 3 years later. Of course, I'm on BCP.

I know this is a few days late but I have been really busy and haven't had a chance to check in. But anyway I take Zelnorm and love it. Yes I did have the diaherra the first few days but after that it does get better. I now have BMs everyday and sometimes two or three times a day. Before I was lucky if I had one every two or three days. I don't have the pain in my side any more. I love it!!! For me it was a god send. I don't know how I made it through before without it.

I do hope it works for you.

Michelle

it has been all along. but whoa, I'm going like 5 times a day! Cool or what?
I hope not to be on it for long though, the fewer meds the better. i'm on 2 for asthma, 2 for allergies(I get a NASTY stuffed nose with hayfever)and Zantac for my GERD....it's be so nice if this diet would let me just eat well and take metamucil every day!I hope!!!!

But I'm so glad you are feeling good. i must admit, i haven't been C since the barium swallow 1 1/2 weeks ago. Ahhh!!

I'm new at this and I may have lost the first response. I've suffered w/IBS since my early thirties. Anxiety/tension were always the culprits. I remember my doc putting me on Zelnorm, but at that time the Food & Drug Admin gave it a bad rap, so I took myself off it. When my IBS flares up and my symtoms are severe w/spasms and unpredictable bouts of diarreha, I've found that the drug "levbid" helps me thru the worst of it. I stay on a very bland repitious diet of what I've learned to be my safe foods for a good while, until my bowel movements go back to normal. The levbid does give me dry mouth, nd its annoying, but I grin and bear it until the uncomfortable symtoms subside. I've had to stay on it for up to 9 days. My GI doc subscribes one every 12 hours. I wish you well.
