I love Sushi!
If you go easy on the wasabi and ginger,it doesn't hurt. But that's me. I'm an A, on the C side. HTH!

I haven't been to a Japanese restaurant in a long time, but today, I had sushi for lunch. A friend of mine makes it to sell in the ethnic market here.

It was remarkably safe. Cucumber minced into tiny pieces, and a dab of mashed avacado, wraped in rice paper, and rolled in white rice. No raw fish, or anything. I ate mine with a bit of soy sauce. I think most restaurants have some sushi on the menu that is "vegetarian sushi" or something like that.

Good luck, "ethnic" choices are usually some of the safest!

Ginger is something good for you=- seaweed doesn't hurt, the rice is good and safe, soy sauce is most often safe, and even the fishes are safe, but the vegetables are mostly safe too... and with enough SF that its YUMMY!

Udon is my second choice - soup... with big thick noodles.. but if you are msg sensitive (I am) make a fuss and make sure they don't have any in the soup.

With the exception of their fried food, most Japanese food is safe. I spent my childhood in Japan and that is one place where I can go and eat my head off and not get sick.

You should be ok with most kinds of sushi. Especially if I am feeling iffy about the situation I get a bowl of white rice and eat that also to cushion the insoluble fiber blow. Miso Soup is good, too. Be careful of what is in the sushi rolls that you order, it is an American thing to put cream cheese in some sushi rolls. I also eat edamame (steamed soybeans in the pod), but only with white rice and my stomach has been very stable and I tolerate veggies well. if you are not perfectly stable I would stay away, or atleast eat with caution.
Mmmm... green tea is good, too!
ilove Japanese food, now I am craving it!

Chicken terrioki (I am so misspelling that!) is good.

I was just wondering about sushi rolls, is the fish ok even if it's raw?? It seems kinda iffy, but I would love to be able to eat the tuna or salmon rolls. I also love the eel rolls, but I think they may be kinda fatty, like fried or something. Thanks for the advice!!!

hmmm i happen to love japanese food but everytime i have tried to eat it i end up getting sick within MINUTES of eating. i was wondering if it was because of the seeweed in the sushi? even if i just get the plain california rolls i still get sick...so my question is, if carigeean is bad for us, and that is made from seeweed, wouldnt the nori be harmful (to me anyway) as well?? any thoughts appreciated!
