hi all

my dr wants me to have a gastric emptying test since i'm still having a lot of nausea and vomitting despite every med in the book and a good diet. the gallbladder did have some density, but no stones. so she thinks the stomach problem is ibs related. (any suggestion if you deal with this is appreciated)

any way, i'm a bit unsure of the test since i don't know much about it. if you've had it could you please let me know what to expect as far as issues you had. for example the hidascan i had was bad for the 2 hours on the curved table.. ughhh...

another thing i keep thinking of is that i went through a bad phase where i threw up everyday, sometimes all day. i was under a ton of stress. right after it got under control i immediately developed ibs. kind of like all the bad stuff went south. so going through this again with active ibs makes me think "oh what's coming my way this time" or "hmm maybe it will all disappear after this phase" (yeah as if i were THAT lucky). so anyone who can relate or provide a hyptohesis on what's going on i'd love to hear from you.

thanks for listening and i hope i've made some sense.

amy

Hi

I don't know about the test but for 4 months I was feeling so sick that I couldn't properly eat. The naseau was so bad.

I was told about ginger supplement and to take a strong dose and drink lots of ginger tea. It really helped and when I had to go to work and things were bad and I didn't want to try gravol I bought ginger suckers. These I had bought at a local pharmacy "evergreen pharmacy" in Campbell River, BC, Canada. They are really strong and are usually used for pregnant women... but do they ever help plus it's fun to think of it as a treat that you are allowed to eat. The are so concentrated and don't have ingredients that would set of an IBS attack. With the supplement and the suckers I wasable to get rid of the naseau. I took about 2 supplements 3 times a day and anytime in between that I really felt sick. Check the ingredients on the ginger capsules cause some are stronger than others and that makes a big difference.

Whenever i'm sick now with the flu I pop some ginger supplements and feel much better than I would with gravol plus it helps with dizziness.

Queenie.. I tried looking for your email here to write you, but it wasn't listed. I would like to chat with you somehow about the testing that you're going through.
My daughter just did the gastric emptying test and it was not bad at all. You are required to show up 'fasted' and then they make you eat either a PBJ sandwich or egg-salad (or other thing) that they lace with a radioactive liquid. Sounds scary, eh? It's not. You do have to eat it all within 5 mins. or so. Then you're taken into a room with an MRI type machine. The one my daughter was in was an 'open' type.. not the tube. She had to lie still for 2 1/2 hours! That was very difficult, since she suffers from nausea and pain mostly. Combined with the fact that she's 12 and the Harry Potter book (though her favorite) didn't cure the itchies that she would have now & again. The machine beeped whenever she moved and they would tell her to be VERY still. Poor little thing. I was so glad that I could sit right next to her though. Very glad. Well... I know your post was quite a while back, but I only just now read it. I hope to hear from you...
Feel free to email me @ FREE2BDEE@aol.com.
Take care,
