Hi,

Its been some time since I posted. I finished the hypno tapes mid last year and then went on to do Towards Inner Peace and had a wonderful few months without any problems.

However, about October last year I started having serious diarrhea again, so much so that I eventually had to see my gastro specialist, thinking that I had cancer. The D was non-stop. Just before the appointment in January (after a miserable Christmas - Christmas lunch of rice and chicken breast) - I spoke with a naturopath at our local health food shop. I was buying magnesium complete tablets as I need them for restless legs syndrome. (Many menopausal women are very low in magnesium and this causes the problem.) I mentioned the non-stop D and she said it was probably the type of magnesium.

Apparently magnesium chelate doesn't give you this problem, but other forms of magnesium can. Well, as it turns out this along with excessive stress (from work) was the root of the problem.

So, if you need magnesium supplements, be very careful which ones you buy.

Regards,
Bev

...since I take magnesium supplements for my C. I find it is the best non-laxative laxative there is, combined with SFS.

So yes, be careful with magnesium if you have D.

I too use a form of Magnesium when I'm "C" but would never touch it when I'm "D". My Dr. has suggested this for "C" only occasionally to clean my system out.

Magnesium is one of the deficiencies, iron and calcium are others. Have you been tested to see if and which area you are actually deficient in and did your "D" seem to become worse after taking the Magnesium? There may be an alternative supplement instead of Magnesium for Restless Leg Syndrome and see if it helps keep "D" in control.

When I was taking natural hormones last year (I'm Perimenopausal)I informed all of my Dr.'s. During my cycle it gave me horrible insomnia lasting 3-4 nights with absolutely "no" sleep and my body was exhausted and numb. I also became horribly nauseated up to 4 days and vomited. After about 8 months I quit taking them. I'm sleeping every night (less during my cycle, but I do sleep), no more nausea or vomiting. My impression is that even though my body has been going through some serious changes, I must not have been deficient enough in those areas to require extra hormones at this time. I learned the hard way. I do still suffer IBS symptoms that I'm struggling with.

I hope you can get your system calmed down. Good luck. Heidi

that helps your Constipation? I could use some!

And how many milligrams per day of this brand and type of magnesium? Is it oxide, glyconate, citrate? Very curious.

My Primary Dr. suggested that I periodically drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate. Since it can be a bit rough on the stomach, I drink it in portions within a set number of hours so I don't suffer much effects and still get the benefit. The cheapest is at WalMart, next choice would be Target as Walgreen's almost doubles the price. I don't do it very often. When I see my new GI, I'm hoping he might be able to offer me something easier on the stomach. The Magnesium Citrate is very tart but the flavor is tolerable. It's not supposed to be harmful to the body if used under the direction of a Dr.

I use Phillip's Laxative Dietary Supplement caplets. It doesn't say what kind of magnesium it is, just that all it contains are 500mg of magnesium per caplet. I take 2-5 daily, depending on whether or not things are moving along on their own. I worry about too much magnesium, but I know that your body flushes out extra vitamins when you get too much, and since my doctor says they are OK, I figure they're fine. After all, if it works, it works.

I buy them at Walmart or drugstore.com. Drugstore.com link page (Even though the page says they are laxatives, they really aren't - read the words on the picture)

Hope that helps!

I do not want a laxative as those are bad for your body and you end up becoming dependent on them and are never able to go without them. They are very harmful to your GI system.

I don't need more problems!!

...magnesium isn't actually a proper laxative -it's not a stimulant which are the ones you can get dependent on. Remember, SFSs are usually marketed as laxatives too!
