toothpaste has artificial sweetners, namely sorbitol, which makes most IBSers sick. Obviously dentists would not agree for real sugar to be in toothpaste, but manufacturers still want their product to taste good.

It does not really bother me, but I have read posts from others. Try not using as much, not swallowing any, rinsing very well, and not eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after you brush. If it still bothers you, you can brush your teeth with plain baking soda, but you won't get the benefits of flouride. But I used to work at a dentist office, and she said the brushing motion is what really cleans your teeth, the toothpaste is just a "frill".

that since i have strong teeth from fourinated water as a kid.. that I should be ok with just a sonic toothbrush and no paste... I put a touch on it every few days when I want the flavor, but its just a mint formulation without sugar (mint and baking soda) the brushing action is what cleans the teeth.. the other is because I want the taste on occasion.

Good luck

Yeh, the only one I can have for whatever reason is Colgate, but just the normal one. Any other and I feel really sick, especially the gel ones. I know this because i tested it over 2 weeks, using gel one week and the plain one the next. I thought it must be daft it being the toothpaste but it definately was. So maybe try a plain one to see if it helps.

Sensodyne toothpaste does not have sorbitol and may help you.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I thought I was the only one...... I have found that any toothpaste with sorbitol in it makes me sick. I guess it gets absorbed through my gums or something. I have read the labels on just about every toothpaste trying to find one that doesn't contain sorbitol (the kids toothpaste has it, too) and it's almost impossible. Even the natural herbal ones have mannitol(similar to sorbitol). The only one I found and have been using is Arm & Hammer Peroxicare Advanced Cleaning.

Be sure to read the labels carefully....I know it takes time but it's worth it.
