I can not wait to get my acacia and begin - I will begin with 1/4 teaspoon 2 times a day for a couple of days then work my way up - please tell me that I will get results. I have never had results with benefiber, citrucel or any others.

Acacia really helps me too! I take a total of 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons a day. I never really saw any results with the other over the counter SFS's. I am C and I have a bowl movement almost every day like clock work. It's usually first thing in the morning.

Acacia is a SFS. A SFS is a soluble fibre supplement (here's the post of abbreviations ).

Read through the diet guidelines . They'll help. This diet works.

I got painful gas pains from using Metamucil (psyllium) but NEVER from Acacia. I started slow but worked up to the full 15g in a few weeks and not once did I experience any gas or bloating after taking the Acacia.

Did you start with 1/2 teaspoon - I was going to start with 1/4 teaspoon because I do not need MORE gas! Do you feel anything yet as far as less pain???

Do you take it first thing in the morning and then at nite???

Thanks for your help! Since you just started it will be nice to know!

It's known for it. It still helped with all my other symptoms...just taking each dose made me blow up like a balloon.

How long before you felt relief??? I am now getting throbbing headaches and feeling nausous from the extreme pain in my stomach. It is becoming harder and harder for me to go to work.

I am in bad shape - I am really counting on the acacia to help relieve some of this - HELP!!

...are gas and bloating with IBS-C, I don't suffer with much pain. So far I haven't really felt much change, as yet, but they say that you only start feeling it when you have a larger dose? Not sure though....I take it first thing on my hot breakfast porridge and with my coco pops (dessert) with Chocolate Soya Milk after my tea/dinner!

Acacia has been great for me. I've been using it since last July (one Tablespoon in morning, one at night). I was IBS-A, and now I have NO D (which is a dramatic improvement), though I still have some other discomfort. That may be b/c I stick to Heather's diet, but not religiously. All the other supplements I took beforehand (the standard: Metamucil, etc.) just aggravated my symptoms. So acacia has been a real find.

Thanks for your support! I have been using enzymes and a probiotic before each meal and drinking fennel, peppermint and chaomile tea. I have also been really watching what I eat (which has been next to nothing). Nothing has been working so I am hoping that if I add acacia to everything else it will help. I am DESPARATE!!! It is becomming harder and harder to function.

...NOT eating will actually cause gas and cramps all of its own. So that could be a problem with you.

Acacia is great, but there is no cure for IBS and no one thing that will control it. You just have to try everything.

I know the feeling re: being upset about the IBS, since I've had it for 20 plus years. I can't say I'm symptom free, but I have plenty of days with no symptoms, and basically I'd had bad cramps, D, C and gas for most of my life. As for the acacia: it got rid of the D relatively quickly (a big deal for me, as I had the explosive, crampy, yuck, yuck, yuck, sort of D). I had C and gas for awhile. Now I have plenty of days when I have just normal function, which I NEVER had before. I'll still go "off" and then it takes awhile to get back to feeling OK, but it used to be if I had a bad day, I could count on a bad month or two for things to get better. Now it is more like a few days. I try to follow Heather's diet, though I'm not as strict as I should be. I take her pepperiment/fennel supplements twice a day, and I'm going to start with a probiotic. Some things I am religious about--no dairy, no coffee, limit fat, no meat. I have black tea now and then, white wine (which is a no-no), and often too large a dinner. I think if I could cut that all out (especially the last bad habit), I'd be in better shape. (I've got a sweet tooth, so I probably eat too large a portion of lowfat sweets, like lowfat soy ice cream.)

Thanks for the support! I take digestige enzymes and a priobitic and drink lots of fennel and peppermint tea. I am now going to start taking a peppermint pill right before lunch. I can not do more than than because than I tend to get heartburn from the peppermint. How long before you started feeling better - I am at the end of my rope!!!!!!!!!

If you have reflux problems you should NOT be taking peppermint tea...try strong Chamomile instead. It's a bummer, but there you go.

You sound like I did a few years ago--lost fifteen pounds trying to live on rice cakes, peanut butter and baked potatoes. I took every kind of fiber on the market, and was still constipated. You should see about some drugs, even if it's just to help you get back to work and get your system in line. Miralax is a godsend for C--it worked for me when no amount of fiber would, but you have to see a GI and get it prescribed. Elavil, an older class of antidepressant, has also been helpful for the cramps.

If you have a GI doc that's only telling you to take more fiber and relax, find another one. If you live within driving distance of a medical school, there are usually folks there who are more knowledgeable than the average GI doc.

Don't give up--keep looking and trying things--and start reading labels!

Sounds like you are starting slow enough. You may want to wait up to a week or so between increases. I never had results with any other SFS either. This stuff is GRAND!! Using it for one year and hope to never be without it!! Hope you see results too!

And you do find a plateau with each SFS I guess. I tried to go from 2 1/2t 3x per day (I take it right before each meal) to the full 3t or 1T and caused me to be more C. However, if I drop it back down, I'm great! Just take your time. I went really slow - up to 3 weeks between increases. Had a little discomfort for a day or two with each increase, but then just fine! I love this stuff!!
