Well, I haven't been at this long but let me tell you about my Crackle Barrel experience. I haden't ate out since IBS started around Dec. 04, and I got really brave ( and desperate), so We went, I drilled the waitress bigtime!!! and finally ordered the grilled "plain", chicken with rice and a plain baked potatoe, well needless to say about an hour later the grand bohemia of , well you know. So you can't trust much of nothing, even though someday I WILL find something, somewhere (I hope), so I can enjoy going out and not having to do dishes later.

didn't have much I'd dare eat even pre-IBS diet and diagnosis because of its very nature... I'd be wary of that and don't let one bad experience turn you off eating out forever.. there are a lot of other restaurants out there... sometimes the little local places are best too.. we have a mexican place that specializes (no publicly, but in the celiac community) in being gluten free and has also been able to safely feed me on a regular basis.. the nicest part is they are now a local chain and have expanded to 3 restaurants so I get to go a lot more without having to face finding parking right in downtown (campus community- not easy to do)
With the house ont he market I still cook a lot, but nto nearly as much because we can't mess it up at certain times...

I agree with Khyricat that Cracker Barrel would be at the bottom of my list of places to eat now that I'm following Heather's plan - although I always loved their chicken and dumplings pre-Heather. And their Tortilla Soup - OMG. Unfortunately, it's just not worth the pain and suffering. Sigh!
I grew up in the South and I know that good Southern cooks always use lots of fat: butter, bacon, cream, etc. (Why do you think Southern cooking always tastes so good - and Southern states have the highest obesity rates?) I suspect that Cracker Barrel is true to its Southern roots and you probably can't get anything there that doesn't have some kind of fat or dairy in it. (Although I would think even they wouldn't be able to get butter inside a baked potato - but don't eat the skin - my mother always slathered the outside of her potatoes with butter before baking them!)
Try some of the other places people mentioned in your "Eating Out" thread - you should have much better luck. So far I've survived Macaroni Grill, an Indian restaurant, and a Moroccan restaurant with no trouble, so there is hope. (I was careful to take both a Bentyl and an Immodium before eating, just in case.) Now that I know Chili's flour tortillas don't have whole wheat, they're next on my list. And I was very hopeful about Outback after what people said about them.
