I take Heather's Acacia fiber morning and night, magnesium morning and night, eat balance of SF and IF. I don't know why I get so much GAS!!! Anyone know what supplements I can take to relieve it?? I've always had gas so it would be good to have a continuous supplement to help it. I've been taking a probiotic called Jarrodophilus and it hasn't helped the gas! Help! Anyone have good tips??

I don't eat dairy. Dairy does give me gas all day long. I do need my fruits and veggies if I don't want to be C. But yes, excessive fruits and veggies does give me gas. But I'm not eating them too much, that is why it's a surprise to me. Actually, I've been eating more SF than before. But I don't think that's the cause...:( Any supplements or vitamins you know that can help??

What dose of Acacia are you on? Have you tried drinking fennel tea? Do you still eat/drink any other triggers, like coffee, carbonated drinks, etc?

An antispasmodic, Levisn/Hyoscyamine. Most of us are trying a more natural way of dealing with this problem. Everything I eat gives me gas, certain people with thier certian attitudes give me gas....you name it.....so, at the advice of my GI, I take the HYO every day and it works like a charm. love it !!! The timed released for of course.

Try drinking peppermint tea with your meals.

Funny thing with me is that I find certain SF foods (eaten at night)like white bread, pasta basically anything with white flour gives me gas at night but not when i eat it in the AM!!?? So Try eating say rice noodles for dinner or roasted potatoes and keep your fruit to a min. at night.

Works pretty good for me. I also take a digestive enzyme before each meal. It's different than a probiotic, although I take those too!

Good luck and hang in there! I get the gas problem BAD too.

Hi BL,

Yep, I had the exact problem as you. BTW, I'm a "D".

I was taking Heather's Acacia and Jarro as well. I continued with the Jarro but cut back on the Acacia, and the gas disappeared altogether. You might try a little less of the Acacia and see how you do.

Don't the anti-spasmodics give you constipation? Or are you a D?

BTW, have you started back on an SFS yet. I remember you said you were going to try one again, after much urging from others!

do you eat in a day? It may not seem like a lot to you, but perhaps it is too much for the IBS. Many people without IBS eat 5-9 servings a day, but perhaps you can only do one fruit and a few veggies well cooked.

Maybe it's the type of fruits and veggies you are eating? What are you eating?

Also, someone told me to concentrate more on veggies than fruit as they are easier to digest??

I have extreme gas too and have yet to pinpoint the cause. I don't eat gassy veggies at all (no broccoli, cabbage, salad, onions, garlic, etc) so I have no idea where the gas is coming from!!!

In other words, I am in the same boat as you!! If you find something that helps, please post. Gas X and fennel tea don't seem to make that big a difference, but maybe they help expel it easier so that it is not trapped and that is better than trapped.

Also, some have taken charcoal tablets, but those absorb meds so I don't recommend those on a daily basis. They actually give charcoal to people who have OD, so I would worry about them absorbing the good stuff too.

I'm not sure of the exact count of fruits/veggy servings I eat. But I have eaten them a while to know how much I eat can give me too much gas. Gas-X makes me more C if taken too much and doesn't work for me. I have found out that Heather's Acacia was giving me extreme gas and bloating because I was taking a high dose. But that's the reason I got Heather's fiber thinking I can take more fiber in one dose. So I'm back on Citrucel. I hope I find a routine soon. Thanks for your help.

I have not started the sfs yet, I have just too much piled on my plate right now, and a I sift through the problems in my life, and get my load a little more oragized, then I will do the sfs, I did promise didn't I?

I am mostly a c right now, the anti's could be part of the reason I am that way. I have found a way of eating that help me around that mostly. I would not give up the spasmodics right now, just too much anxiety and nervous tendencies happening with me. But, one day I want to be like Heather and totally depend on the peppermint caps as she does. I hope it can happen. Hope you are doing better !

I wish I could find a way of eating to help the C! What way and foods helps you from becoming C? Inquiring minds want to know!

I truly hope your life settles down soon. I know you have been struggling with family "stuff" that has been so weary for you. More prayers and hugs for you. And glad you still pop onto the boards. It helps me get through life. It may not seem like you have time, but it may renew you to deal with things better in the long run.

You know, I have been taking so many different things for my sinus infection the last two weeks, my body is in shock, I really believe that. I also am so C, soooo here is what I plan on doing in the morning to get back on track. One bowl of wheat checks with a small amount of silk and a hot cup of tea. Then later on in the morning I am going to have a banana smoothie, probably with some blue berries mixed in. IF that doesn't do the trick, then I am going to screaaaaamm!!!! I just ate a half of pnut butter sandwich with some apple butter on it, mostly to shield my tummy from the pain caused from meds. I cannot do pnut butter, it C's me so bad, and here I go eating it again. My Dr. thinks I may have some type of auto-immune problem going on. The anti biotics are not phasing this sinus infection, the prednisone, is only hurting my stomach and bones (it is in the garbage as we speak). I am to have a ct scan in three weeks after I finish a round of some stuff called Clindemycin, (sp). We will see after that. I am feeling so badly, if I could throw up, I think I would be in better shape. I don't know what to do. I am going to order some books on auto immune and see what I can find out. I am so tired of being sick. The kids came over tonight and had supper with us, then we watched Survivor and they went home and went to bed. Their dad is working a 7am-7pm day shift. I take them to school and pick them up, I miss them so much when they are not here. They are really good boys.

Anyway, thanks so much for asking about me, I will keep you informed of my health. If you know anything about the auto immune stuff, please pass it on to me. My mom has Sjogrens Syndrome, it is auto immune, not much info. out there on it.

love to you beth, hope you are doing better wtih your C, are you??? I also had green beans at supper, plan on having more at lunch tomorrow, that kind of thing usually helps me out.

What does magnesium do?

Fennel tea has helped me tremendously. I've also heard that Bean-o or other over-the-counter gas relievers are good, too, but I haven't tried them. I still have problems with insoluble fiber, so I've stopped eating a lot of veggies, and that helps too. I'm trying to add them back in slowly. Acacia works well for me...
