Can anyone reccomend [sp?] items from either of these stores? I want to make a field trip next week.

(Sorry for having three new things in a row here)

Being a Brit, I can't recommend anything, but I just wanted to say: Post away! It's no problem, especially as you're always friendly and polite!

Hmmm...lets see...

Well, what can you eat? Are you ok with a lot of sugar?

My list when I go:

Jasmine rice
Apples
Potatoes
Imagine Soups (pureed veggies...easy on the tummy and oh so yummy!)
Puffed millet cereal
Oatmeal (if you can eat it...I can't but it's great for most IBS folks)
Pasta
Tomato sauce (make sure nothing has high fructose syrup in it)
I buy beans...make sure you mash them. West Brae is a Kosher brand.
See if they have fresh bread that's Kosher without HFCS in it. White bread...no whole wheat for us folks!
Fish. I like sardines, kipper snacks, etc.
Crackers.
Rice cakes.
Carrots. (They may be too harsh on your tummy as you're just starting out. But try it and see how you do if you like).
Quinoa is a great grain and they have boxes you can make in the microwave. I think the brand is Seeds of Change. (P.S. Check everything for a Heksher. I've bought tea at Whole Foods and one week it had a Heksher and the next it didn't. Hubby and I were outraged! Just a warning).

I can't really think of anything else. But I'm sure you'll get lots of help here.

And don't worry about posting too much...it's not possible

Hope you had a great Shabbos...Gut Vuch!

No, vast amounts of sugar is a bad idea. Not just because of digestions, but I'm ADHD, and specifically sugar sensitive, so not good.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm ADD! I also can't do sugar. I'm glad I left out the sugary stuff from the list then.

Btw, you can buy bagels. (If you eat white flour...I don't). You can try peanut butter or peanut butter alternatives (like almond butter). You can also buy soymilk, rice milk, or almond milk at Whole Foods. Melba crackers are a good snack (check ingredients). Pretzels are another good one. I'll keep thinking for ya!

Hope this helps....

I noticed in the ingredients that some of the Trader Joe's bagels, there's HFCS. Spinoza brand, I think. Is there a difference between white flour and white bread?

White bread is made from white flour. But they stuff other ingredients in with it The best bread for IBSers is French /Italian/Sourdough

These breads are basically yeast, a drop of sugar (just enough to get the yeast to bubble), white flour and water. They're delicious! Is there a Kosher bakery near you? They should have something without the added stuff. Did I answer your question completely...if not write me back!

I'm sorry if this is too personal but you said you have adhd and I was wondering if your on meds? I just started some for that. I don't actually have that but a hard time concentrating and anxiety. I think the meds are making my stomach and c worse thats why I was wondering. Sorry a little off topic. As for trader joes I found frozen fruits that are great for baking and taste fresh. They have healthier scones and muffins. A lot of healthier frozen meals.I like there pre made sandwiches too. Take care.

Like I said in one of my other posts to you, I get dairy free roasted vegetable frozen pizzas(Trader Joe's own) and fat free (No Pudge is the brand name) brownie mix at Trader Joe's. Sometimes I'll pick up some quinoa or potato gnocchi from there as well. Oh, and mango-tangerine sorbet.

I used to go to Whole Foods to get rice cheese and rice butter, but now I can get the rice cheese at Fresh Grocer, and I just find subs for butter instead of using the rice butter. But they do have a good selection of various snacks, teas, and frozen foods. Have fun!

Not a personal question at all; I'm pretty open about my ADHD. Yeah, I'm on Concerta (which is the same as Ritalin, just encapsulated differently) and Ritalin proper. I was actually wondering if there was a link between the meds and the IBS...I should ask someone.

OMG Whole Foods is my FAVORITE store!!!! My obsession is scary...I spend like over an hour in there every time I go. This weekend I went and bought:
TONS of ricemilk (I buy the Whole Foods 365 brand and I think it's the best!)
veggie broth (good for rice, recipes)
breads
soy cream cheese (no casien)
soy yogurts (i like Wildwood or Silk)
smoked whitefish and salmon from the deli
wheat free vegan cookie and muffin (fresh baked!yum!)
hot cereals (cream of rice, barley, oatmeal)
corn tortillas
tofu
black beans
rice cakes
EnviroKids rice bars (they have pix of animals on them, they come in berry and peanut butter (my fave), but don't get the chocolate it has dairy!)
papaya (IBS safe fruit!)
I hope this helps and have fun shopping!!

For Ruchie, I was just wondering what you do with the sardines, do you just eat them out of a can??! I need more protein and I am looking for creative ways to get it Thanks!

Do you eat mostly gluten free? I noticed you listed wheat free cookies and the rice bars you buy are also GF (I get the PB ones too)! But you listed bread so was wondering if they sell a GF bread there?

Do you prefer the rice milk over the soy milk? I think soy milk is gassy myself.

What kind of cream of rice do you buy there? I'm looking for a new brand. Is it brown rice based?
Thanks and sorry to but into your post.

Try the Whole Soy and Co yogurts, they are the best and have cultures which are good too. Also the animal crackers there are great. The vegan chocolate mousse on the salad bar and the lentil burgers on the bar are good, plus the brown rice vegan sushi is good.

I'm also on concerta and my doc was worried to put me on this because he says it does cause stomach distress and loss of appetite. I think it has contributed to my nausea too. It helps though my mind so far. I thought I would just let you know that was what I was told but you adjust after time.

Hi! Sorry I just saw this post, I have been overwhelmed with work this week...I do wheat free, but not gluten free. I am thinking about adding in wheat again, but we'll see about that. I do drink rice milk mainly because I like it better. I do think the soy makes me gassier sometimes, although I drink it occasionally. I like the Lundberg rice cereal, and I just found the brand Erewhorn (sp?), which I think is easier to cook right than Lundberg. I'm pretty sure those are both brown rice...Good luck and talk to you soon!

Well I went to Whole Foods and TJ's on Sunday. Unfortunately, upon arriving at Whole Foods, I realized that I forgot to bring a list of kosher symbols I could rely on, and so I didn't buy anything there. I then went over to TJ's and was lucky to find a lot of safe food (I think). I'll probably head back there instead of going to WF.

Thanks for everyone's help! If you have any more suggestions, please let me know!

Hi there! I love Whole Foods too I buy sardines and eat them over rice (and if I really want to treat myself I'll add some stemed veggies...yum)! Do you eat tofu...it has tons of protein as well. You can also have bean/lentil soup if your tummy can tolerate it. Good luck...feel good *hugs*

P.S. You can also get protein from bronw rice, quinoa, millet, barley (I htink) and buckwheat. I think all of these grains are IBS for many folks. Also...what about egg whites? I'll keep thinking for ya *hugs*
