I actually had to stop taking miralax because even though I have mostly IBS-C it was making my now be IBS-D. What is worse?????

I also added digetive enzymes to my meal to see if that helps in any way!!! Any comments on those????

I was taking miralax (well the generic) twice a day. I called my Doctor and told her I was having "D"..even though I am IBS-C (pain predominant). She said to cut down to once a day. Now actually, I mix it a little below the line on the cup once a day and I am having (taking acacia too) normal, soft bm's - yahoo!!

I would think taking acacia with the miralax would be too much! I am a bit scared to start another supplement like acacia that you have to do very carefully!

I take acacia with my miralax in the morning on an empty stomach and go right after breakfast. No cramps or anything, and no violent BM's, although they are very soft. You may want to experiment with it. Good luck.

hey!
what is miralax? can you only take it for a little while or is it safe for long-term use? i think im confused on what acacia really is. what is it exactly? a stir-in fiber? does it work like a SFS or like a laxative?

I am glad someone else is confused on acacia. Miralax is a prescribed laxative from a dr. I was taking it twice a day (mixed with tea) but it then gave me D so I just stopped. I probably should go back to once per day - I dont't know.

I am waiting for an answer on acacia also

thanks for writing!

Acacia is a SFS like Citrucel or Benefiber but it is organic and does not have any additives or sugars. You can mix it with water, food, juice, whatever. Hope that helps. I take Miralax once per day. It is a laxative, but it is prescribed by a doctor. It is not a stimulant laxative and is not harmful. It draws water to the colon, kind of like a stool softener, and that's what causes you to go.

So acacia is not a laxative - it is a soluble fiber supplement to help relax the colon more? Is that why you could take acacia quite a few times during the day if you want or need to (empty stomach)? then you still take your laxative for other reasons (constipation)? correct??

I am obviously new to all of this

Thanks for responding!
