Short questions.

My diverticulous or IBS getting more bothersome, with either a bit of constipation followed by periods of more frequent but not necessary loose boweks. At moment still taking Metamucil but I have purchased some Prodiem locally.

Since is not a psyllium base is it safe to take on a daily basis as with psyllium? Or is it a stronger laxative?

Second try. I tried reposting but it was deleted.

Basically all I want to know if Prodiem is taken by some people as a regular fibre supplement. My reason is the manufacturer help line states it is not but I would like to get off Metamucil

Prodiem IS a psyllium based fiber. I haven't tried it, but it appears to be a simple bulk-forming fiber supplement like many others on the market. I don't see why you can't take Prodiem instead of Metamucil. Different brands and fibers work different on everyone. If you're not happy with Metamucil, I'd give the Prodiem a try.

Right now, I'm trying Benefiber because I like the fact that it dissolves.

Thanks, Benefibre not avaiable locally.

As far as Proediem it indicates that it is methycellulose and not pysllium. I'll have to do a Google search and see what web says.

That's interesting. My mother-in-law used to take Prodiem, & the bottles always said it was a psyllium fiber. Maybe Prodiem makes different forms of fiber?

Prodiem does make more than one product and Prodiem plain contains psyllium whereas Prodiem Bulk Fibre Therapy Powder does not but contains Methycellulose instead of psyllium. Apparently easy to mix but may be a stronger laxative and not meant to be used daily as a fiber supplement.

Still checking

I checked, and Citrucel contains methylcellulose. Citracel is definitely fine for taking daily, which makes me think your Prodiem is the same.

Okay thanks. Will start trying it as I find psyllium although I've taken it for some time for IBS and diverticulous seems to be more bothersome as of late, (gas, bloating, etc.)
