My mother was on it for a while as well, and *thankfully*, her doctor caught her before she developed any major health problems, but it shot her cholesterol straight through the roof. Now, on doctor's orders, she's eating like I am!

South Beach, as I remember it, is a *little* healthier because it focuses on lower-fat foods. But it's still a little low on the soluble-fiber foods for our dietary needs.

It's all about balance and common sense. You need proteins and fats (in moderation), and you need carbohydrates, and you need fruits and vegetables. Our bodies are really not made to flourish on one and not any of the others. Just my .02...

I tried the Atkins a few years ago and within 2 weeks I
noticed that my stomach was fine. No gas, No bloating and
that was wonderful. Even my doctor could not believe how much better I was doing. I even lost weight. But when I had my yearly checkup my cholesterol was not good so I got off the diet.

...so like with many foods, if you're IBS-D, they'll give you D, if you're IBS-C, they'll give you C. They just mess you up basically.
